Hi

Got a 2002/3 Corolla T3 and the brakes squeeke when I brake and I checked and the pads are new, and also the rear driver side tyre their is a scraping noise and dont know what it is as the handbrake is not touching and the tyre spinds around loosely!!

Thanks

it may be whoever fitted the new pads either

1: didnt replace the 2 anti squeal pads and/or

2: didnt put enough copper slip on

the corolla brakes are well known for sticking so the rear brakes could just need a bit of TLC. bit of a clean up may do the trick.

hope this helps :)

I had this problem all you have to do is apply some cooper grease on the backs of the pads.

Should sort them out a treat

Most likely whoever fitted the pads did not fit anti-squeal shims. On this model the genuine Toyota pads come with the shims allready fitted to the pads but if you buy other non-Toyota pads then they do not come with shims and these have to be bought seperately from Toyota. What can happen is that someone removes the original pads, sees that there are no seperate shims, and goes ahead and fits the new pads without shims - hence the squealing.

If you wish to sort it out yourself, you will need to:-

1) Remove the pads

2) If they are genuine Toyota then re-fit with some copper grease on the backs of the pads.

3) If non-Toyota and no shims are present, than buy a shim kit from your local Toyota dealer( about £5 a set). Re-fit the pads together with shims. Smear copper grease on backs of pads and shims.

As for the rear wheel scraping sound - can you describe it in more detail. Difficult to diagnose without more info.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies guys!!! My dad checked the brakes so dont know about the shims, but beofre I bought it got serviced so new brakes were fitted and most likely not Toyota parts!! Guess I will have to get the copper graese out!!

The grinding noise is like something is scraping but like I said the tyre spins freely but with a grinding noise!! Its only on the driver side and when it stops raining may have a look at it!! But the front brakes are doing my head in and may get them shims!! ;)

Cheers

The rear wheel problem can only really be one due to one of three components-

1) Rear brake pads -either worn down to the wear indicators or something stuck in between pad and disc.

2) Parking brake shoes or something else inside the rear drum ( this is a totally seperate system to the pads/disc)

3) Worn out wheel bearing.

What sort of mileage has the car done?
