Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone can help me out.

I have a 93 Previa gl auto with a gas conversion but i have a problem.

While taking a slight left hand bend the gearbox disengages the gear and the revs go through the roof if i dont watch it. I've changed the gearbox but to no avail.

Does anyone have any idea as to what this problem could be?

I love my car but am starting to get a bit annoyed with it.

And when hot. You need to have travelled at least 5-10 miles before checking the level and keep the engine running as stated.

You say you have changed the gearbox did that include the torque converter ??????

Yes torque converter was changed at the same time and oil level is good, but this problem just gets on my nerves. Also now sometimes when driving in a straight line i get a quick gear drop and then it goes back to normal motoring. This problem has been on my car for nearly two years and no one seems to have any clues for me except the oil and torque converter. Could there be anything else thats being overlooked for this to be happening?

Cheers guys.

Yes the ECU as these are ECT (electronically controlled transmissions). The ECU takes input from a number of sources, e.g. engine speed, throttle position sensor etc to determine which gear you should be in. You should have the ECU checked to ensure there are no trouble codes stored in there that might suggest where the problem lies. You can find info on how to do this yourself using this online manual.

The reason everyone keeps pointing you to the same things is that these are the most common problems. Obviously now you must delve further.

One other thing you can check is that the kick down cable is adjusted correctly. You will find this under your engine inspection cover. There, on top of the throttle body, you will see two cables. The one nearest you is the throttle cable, the other has an orange boot on it and disappears under the chassis. This one needs to be adjusted correctly and is well know for seizing up. You can find info on this in the same manual.

Hi guys, after much reserch on this I now firmly believe it to be a wireing problem in the loom. Can anyone tell me how to bypass the loom with a jump-wire to try and cut out this problem or is it a case of putting it into a garage for a total re-wire?

Thanks for your help so far , youve been great.
