Blown Head Gasket

Advice please

Have blown the head gasket and husband does not have time for a DIY job - have been quoted £1000 by a garage.

Any ideas or should it go to the big Toyota car park in the sky? :(

I think thats a bit on the steep side i had my head gasket replaced by a local garage for £295 when toyota quoted my £480 including parts so if i was you i would ask around local garages its not exactly a long job.

Yeah £1000 is a crazy price. You can buy a reconditioned engine for that. You should be looking at sub £350. If the head is not warped,, it will only take a few hours to change the gasket, and you can pick them up for about £30. The only other alternative is to use something like STEEL SEAL which is supposed to seal blown head gaskets and even warped heads. I've never tried it and would be a little apprehensive about doing it but if you are after a very cheap fix it might be worth ago. The steel seal website is HERE.

Does anyone here have any experience with such a product ?

Hi

Have used similar product on metal to metal joints and it is very sucessful but really isn't any more than an epoxy (Joy's other half)

Looks like its the car park in the sky then! :(
