A RWD Escort Cosworth? I thought all the Escort Cosworths where 4WD.

some models were RWD, I don't think they had the whale-tail spoiler?? :bookworm:

The model without the spoiler is still 4WD. Ford decided to offer the Cosworth without the rear spoiler to try and make it less attractive to car thieves, it didn’t work though.

The history of the Escort Cosworth - It doesn't mention a RWD Escort Cosworth, only the 4WD version.

I have seen a RWD model, I've seen it drive on the track and its ***** end happy! 4x4 don't get the back end out easily in the dry, and this did!?! :afro:

I've been looking at loads of Cosworth sites and they all say that Escort Cosworths are four wheel drive with a 34/66% front/rear power split, basically it's a 4x4 Sierra with a Mk 5 Escort Shell welded on top. I've not found one site that even mentions Ford ever making a RWD Escort Cosworth. ;)

Pretty easy with a 34/66 split.

All you have to do is come off the throttle in the corner and around she comes.

But in saying that my ST205 comes around just fine in the dry as does the EVO6. And the WRX STi and Type RA which I used to own.

Come off the throttle mid corner in a FWD and you'll get the same effect as RWD. How do you think Minis managed to win Monte Carlo so many times. ;)

If I put F40 on my number plate would the value of my car go up, it's nearly the right colour :)

It would go up, as that plate would cost 1000's!!!:yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::thumbsup:

But really, it was RWD, prob not standard, I'm sure I'm wrong about the rwd thang :crybaby: This badboy was getting the back end out far to easily(or was it magic :fear: )

i think it was more due to torque as he was gunning it out of quarry which is a nasty corner and the back tyres were so powerful he wasn't getting any grip so was steering with the throttle if that makes any sense, mind you I could also be wrong....

in the dry I would hope it wouldn't! That why we get 4x4's! Maybe it was running at 500hp or summin! :bye: But the plate gave it away

Not an expert on torque steer and all that sort of stuff so you could be right, don't know if it posisble (possibly over to glen for this one) but it was definately a very modified example....

Thought the hankinen sticker was a bit tacky though, why drive a car and put original drivers names in unless it had actually been driven professionally by that person.

well, there was a Escort Cossie at Combe on Sat, when he lost it on Quarry and span onto the grass, HIS REAR WHEELS span him off the grass and onto the track, would a 4WD car do that?? even with a 66/34 split? He almost did a 180!!

It is feasible. Depends whether he has LSD's.

Some of the GTO's have 3. One on each of the axles and one between front and rear.

If he's losing traction to the rear it will dump power there.

he should have been loosing power on all 4 wheels, h was on the grass stopped. There should have been no reason for the back end to swing round like that in a 4wd car?

If it's a race car as people are indicating then he would have has a brake bias control valve. It is easy to do. I can do it in a carpark with a standard set up on mine. Wheel lock will tie the front temporarily. Next time we are at a meet together we'll find some grass and sort out your doubts. ;)

I can buy cars in NZ cheaper than here. Thank you government for shutting all the local car industry down and taking away ALL taxes on importing cars. No tax / no duty.

Then being a national it's a simple matter of keeping them in my folks shed for a minimum of 6 months and bringing them over. Then since I've owned it there it's a private import and provided I don't sell it within 12 months of import I avoid duty and tax here. :D

For proof I've used it over there they just need registration, insurance and a petrol receipt.

Sneaky sneaky.

I went to the JAPFEST in Bath last saturday.

Fair to say i saw two GT-Fours and two Cossies burning up the track.

And what happened?

The first cossie ended up in the grass, which i admit is down to driver.

And the second?............well lets just say its missing a wing and i think its gonna need a new engine because after about 3 laps the car died being thrashed.

The two GT-Fours? Trashing is the name of the game. You CANNOT kill a GT-Four. Unless of course you use a brick wall.

Also Supra Vs GT4?

Both stock (Japanese Imports, Supra 280bhp & GT4 255bhp) there isnt much in them. I've seen the video thats been floating round the net where they race them head to head. The supra wins the quarter mile by 0.3 or a second and the gt4 actually gets out in front first!

Supra wins on top end though and tuning. No-one can dispute 1000bhp possibility.

But i chose gt4 because it aint far off a supra, looks more modern, is more reliable and is half as much to insure.

But dont get me wrong, supras rock!

Jap cars own!

But Fords? Whats a ford anyway?

twin turon Supra has 320 bhp?!? Plus, it does 0-60 in 5.0  That is almost a second faster than stock GT4!

But I would have st205 GT4 for the handling, but the Supra is the daddy on speed!

Hi, I've just been watching a DVD, with a 680bhp supra. But get this it's running a 2 litre MR2 turbo engine (3sgte I think) capable of 200mph. Took original engine out to save weight as it is built for track racing rather than 1/4mile
