Problems With 4a-ge 20 Valve

Hi all , newbie here looking for help. I have a 1993 corolla 1.6 twin cam 4age 20 valve silver top that wont start. Recently the car started giving problems when starting first thing in morning whereby it would start and just tick over but would cut out if you rev it . When this was occuring the rev counter was jumping up to 7000revs! But yesterday morning it would not start at all, it fires for a second but dies immediately. Have any of you guys come across this problem or would you know of any common faults to this engine that I could check out . Thanks in advance

First thing - check the leads, they may look alright but if the salt got into them on the boat they rot (break up) from the inside. Had a problem with mine - missing at first then over-revving as the sensors tell the ECU to compensate, new set of leads sorted it. hope this helps.

Thanks for that , got it started eventually thought the rotor and cap was a bit dodgy so cleaned them up but will replace them and leads as u suggest, hopefully this will sort it. Again your advice is much appreciated
