New Member E111 Corolla Modding

Hi there, new member here so go easy lol

I've been looking into modding my Corolla 1999 model (E111?) It's a standard 1.3i liftback currently. I've been looking at various things so I'll just make a list and maybe you guys can give me some pointers:

1. Engine swap, from what I've read there's not much can be done for a standard 4E-FE. Having said that what kind of hp gains might be possible with some simple upgrades like oil filter, higher capacity fuel pump and injectors?

2. Weight saving. I'm really interested to see if any significant weight savings can be made from stripping anything out of the car?

3. I've been looking into a suspension upgrade and possibly tension? roll bars. Been looking at Koni springs and Bilstein dampers.

4. New alloys, currently 14" Fox racing but I'm looking to increase to 16's or maybe 17's but again I want to keep the weight down.

Probably enough for now anyway! Look forward to hearing what you lot think!

lift back? you have the 5 door? in that case you won't being interested in the best way to lose weight which is to strip out the rear seats. As for engine modification, induction kit and exhaust system is abut all you can do, but i recommend saving for an engine conversion either to a 4A-GE 20V or the turbocharged 4E-FTE found in starlet GT turbo's. The antiroll bar syste, thats on the corolla as standard is pretty comprehensive and effective too, as to suspension i went with 20% stiffer KYB shock and fensport (manufactured by blitz) lowered progressive springs.

Cheers for the reply! I guess modding the 4EFE is out then... I've done a bit of research into sourcing a 4AGE for a conversion but can anyone recommend anywhere that could carry out the full conversion? And any ideas on a price?

how do you find the springs? the powdercoat on the set i have in the garage cracked up............ the set thats on it now look fine but i need to put my uprated KYB's on. did you change your mounts too? bit on the cheap side i would have thought to be manufactured by Blitz...............

Hows the conversion getting on? have you removed the engine yet or are you rebuilding the 3s?

i think the springs are quite impressive, much better than stock but that's the only comparison ihave, the powder coat is still okay on mine at present (touch wood), and as to the 3S conversion, i'm waiting on a replacement con rod as one of the one's in my donor engine had spun a bearing.

i agree - the springs are impressive, matched with the uprated shocks not much touches it on the handling stakes but was dissapointed that the powdercoat cracked............ might have something to do with the car going round most corners on 3 wheels :naughty: calmed down a lot with the T sport and tbh the T Sport doesnt inspire the same confidence or even handle as well.

Do you have the proper uprated shocks finished in orange? when i picked this one up he advertised it as having uprated KYB's but it was the OE replacement KYB's, Handling isnt so good with that set-up, springs are far to stiff for the shocks.

my shocks were finished in black, but they are KYB Excel-G which appear stock (the only give away is the box they come in and the excel-g sticker on the shock itself) despite this they are uprated about 20% stiffer than stock. i think it's the narrower track on the e12's that prevent 'enthusiastic' driving round corners.
