Gen 7 Rear Fog Light Trim Removal?

Hi all, owned a Celica for a year but only found this forum now!

I've got a bit of damage on the trim surrounding the rear fog lights on my gen 7 Celica. I've unscrewed the red lenses which expose the bulb but I can't seem to get the trim out. Do I have to take the whole bumper off to remove the fog light trim?

Cheers

The odd thing is that after you unscrew the two fixings for the red lense, the whole trim just rattles around. Suggests its clipped in somehow but not sure where?

From what i remember when i had my rear bumper off.... there are two screws on the front for the lense, and then on the back there is a clips on the edges holding the fog enclosure in place....

only pic i could find of the back of it is this when i removed mine - which is not very clear i am afraid.

The foglights on the Gen7 are a 3 piece unit.

The lens/light itself, the visible frame around it, and the rear subframe which locks everything together.

The way it works is that the colourmatched frame is located through the holes in the bumper, then the rear subframe ( for want of a better description ) pushes onto the back of the coloured border frame and they sort of click together. This locks the frame(s) into the bumper. The lens then screws on.

The lens assembly is IIRC about 35 quid a side, but the border frame and rear subframes are only a few pounds each - so it's not a big problem if you have to cut them apart. I fitted a pair to the back of my Sera ( didn't want a hangy down thing for UK compliance ) so I've got the prices and part numbers somewhere.

Good luck

  • 3 weeks later...

Good news, it was way way easier than I thought. I ordered a new trim from the dealership. Got it and found that it only had a tab in the middle on the top and bottom holding it to the back suppport peice. It took abit more force than I thought but it unclipped very easily once I knew what I was unclipping. New trim simply clipped into position. Result!!!!

Cheers mate. Surprised how little flaffing around was required. Trim was already painted and once I knew what I was doing the whole job took 2mins.
