Aux Belt Cracked (avensis Vvti 1.8 2002)

Just did a service. The report says AUX belt cracked. There is recommendation of immediate change.

Should I change it or want until it breaks? How cirtical the AUX belt is?

I had similar situation long time ago, for a cracked timing belt. I ignored it and end up of £600 bill.

This will be either the alternator belt of the air-con belt. They only cost around £10 each. if the alternator belt fails you could end up stranded or late for that important meeting etc....

Get it fixed.

I have seen auxiliary belts breaking then getting caught up in the timing belt cover and snapping the cam belt so get it replaced.

Don't forget that the VVTI engines are cam-chain instead of cam-belt, so that is unlikely in this instance. Worst case is if/when it snaps he'll lose power steering and alternator, maybe air con. I had mine done at a local garage, was only £35 fitted. Get it done!

Thanks a lot for everyone's help. I will get it fixed. By the way, the garage (TOYOTA) dealer told me my car uses timing chain rather than belt.
