Replacing An Aerial

Hi All,

My partner owns a 2002 P1 Yaris (very long aerial at the front) and recently took it to a car wash, during which the aerial (rather predictably) came clean off. The aerial snapped just by the mount, so there is no damage to that. I've got two questions...

1. How do I remove the remains of the aerial? I unscrew the plastic cover and then I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do to the metal plugs underneath, do I just yank or is there a trick?

2. Where can I obtain a replacement aerial and how do I fit it?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Jamie

Did the same thing with a phase 1 just last week. Made worse by the wife asking if we should unscrew the areial before the wash, and me saying no need it'll be fine. Anyroad, mine snapped clean off leaving the fat screw part which was still attached to the mount. I unscrewed the fat bit with a pair of pliers and replaced it with a shorter whip that I bought at the market for £5. The market one had 3 or 4 different screw attachments, one of which fitted fine. Also the new one is much shorter and less 'whippy'. I like to listen to Medium Wave (talksport) and the shorter cheapy is less prone to 'MW crackle and whine' than the original Toyota whip on our other Ph 1.

My mu did a similar thing with her Fiesta, luckily the damage was on the upper part so we got a universal replacement which worked OK.

Hi, I dont wanna go off subject too much, but does the small arial get better reception on the fm range, too?

I was thinking of getting a shorty but didn't want the sound to suffer!

I'm no ICE techie and not generally a music listener, However, the FM seems crystal clear when my daughter changes it in the mornings.
