Hey peeps!

I have just brought an induction kit for my celica vvti 190 but seem to be having some issues. I have a chrome pipe but the fittings dont appear to match up with anything. I brought it as the seller said it was for the vvti. Is it different because i have the 190?

Im pretty sure it is for a celica as the sensor thing fitting appears to match up and be the same but nothing else seems to.

Does any one have any pcitures of theres which they have fitted or instuctions anywhere?

Maybe it is just the wrong one.

Any help appreciated.

Thank you please

John

You have the wrong kit. 140s have the vvti engine (1ZZ-GE), your 190 has the vvtLi (2ZZ-GE).

Totally different intakes.

Ok thanks.

Can you recommend anywhere to get a 190 vvtli induction kit?

IMO the stock Toyota intake is pretty damn good & I wouldn't recommend fitting an induction kit to this engine.

If you want a bit more induction roar, remove the butterfly valve from the stock airbox + a TRD or K&N drop in

filter will give a slight improvement in airflow.

If you must have an induction kit, there are two types to choose from. Short Ram Intake (SRI) - these are the

short 'U' shaped tubes with the filter in the engine bay. These suffer from 'heatsoak' ie they suck in hot air directly

out of the engine bay & can actually lose you power. The other is the Cold Air Intake (CAI), these are much better

performance wise as their filter is situated in the void behind the bumper / in front of the nearside front wheel where they

suck in nice cold air. Downside to these are they're a pain in the ***** to fit & access to the filter for cleaning is a hassle.

They also leave you open to 'hydro-lock' ie if you drive through deep water, they'll suck up water which will damage

your engine usually beyond repair, although you can get valves that fit in the CAI to avoid this. The US lads swear by AEMs

CAI for quality & gains although they are rather expensive.

Many cheap induction kits for the gen 7 will throw up a CEL (the Check Engine Light on your dash), this is because they have

been poorly designed & the diameter of the tube where the MAF (mass airflow sensor) fits is different to stock, causing the

MAF to supply wrong data to the ECU !Removed! up your fueling. Some people mod these cheap intakes by butchering the stock

airbox & fitting the Toyota MAF housing inline with the cheap intake which works well. Cheap intakes also come with cheap filters

with debatable air cleaning abilities.
