I Got My Tsport!

Hi all,

Well i picked my TS this evening and im well impressed with her. But even after 2 hours of driving things have become apparent......

1) I too have become addicted to "Lift"

2) I will get a lot of speeding tickets

3) I am going to blow up the engine!!!!!

These questions have also arose with driving my tSport (it may have come up before)

I spent nearly 2 hours of my drive at 5000+ revs, that cant be good for the engine. Maybe its how people drive TSports but driving for say a 100 miles of a journey hovering in the "Lift" zone doesnt feel right to me, the engine sounds great but i always feel i have the revs too high and feel the need to change up a gear but im too busy tipping along nicely.

Ok let me make this more simple, when driving my previous cars I would change up gears at about 4000 revs and cruise on a motorway in fifth gear at 3000 revs.

On the TSport im continually over 4500 revs while cruising along a motorway and often spending a period of minutes in 5500+ revs.

Look, the TSPORT made me do it.......its not how i usually drive. I feel that im always in too high revs but i feel the car isnt being "used" if not being driven in high revs. It feels right but it probably isnt good for the car...is it????

Can anyone advise...... Please

I always drive at high revs, I love the noice from lift as you're just entering it, sounds like a turbo spooling!

They sit at 3000RPM in 6th at 60Mph so not too bad for Expressway driving. If the engines couldn't handle the high revs they wouldn't mak them how they have. They're rev hungry and beg for it. The only real downside is you use A LOT of petrol and some are known to burn a lot of oil too.

I myself like driving down the expressway / motorway in third until some numpty trys to out accelerate you and bam, straight in lift all the way to 90Mph. xD

I'll probably end up wrecking my engine but I've been doing it for over a year now and it's not gone bang yet! :P

I may get burned for this, but if you:

Check that the vital fluids are the correct level frequently

Change the oil more frequently than Mr T says and use a quality lubricant

Stick to the service schedule as a minimum

Warm her up before you give it some (No smut please  )

Let her cool down for a bit before switching off

Dont tell the next owner about the way you drive B)

And you should be ok.

In 6th at 70moh you will be at about 3300 rpm. This actually really annoys me due to the "boom" you get between about 3200 and 4200rpm. I'd much rather have the engine quieter at 70. Most of my driving is on the motorway so I often end up driving in 5th just so it makes it to about 4200 rpm and the "boom" disappears. Call me an old man if you like, but I still love lift and the acceleration of the car after 2.5years of owning her, but I am more concerned about noise and the cost of petrol these days. :(

Yeah i can see what you are saying, petrol is a big issue these days. I would consider myself an "old man" too. Dont know how old the rest of ye are but im at the supposidly sensible age of of 31. Now i took another spin on her this morning, cant seem to stop driving me new toy!!!!! I do like the "jekyl & Hyde" aspect of the car but you really have to work her a bit to get it to perform. But i think its something i have to get out of my system, just waste a few full tanks of petrol in lift until i start driving a little more sensibly... I havent actually put the car in 6th gear yet!!! Usually 3rd and 4th..oh what fun.

I will soon find my own balance with mt CTS, just give me time. Thanks for the advice guys....

o.k. Your an old man!!

OK FINE! take me literally why don't you? ;) :P

One other thing I'd love to fix is the tough gear changes. When I drive the girlfriend's polo I near enough throw the gear stick into the engine bay as I'm so used to having to put effort into moving the stick in a CTS.

I spoke to a Toyota tech quite a long time ago and he claimed that fitting a washer to the top of the gear box releases a little bit of pressure, which in turn gives you a smooth change, but I tried this ghetto style with a metal washer I found in the shed, ad it didn't make any noticable difference, so I took it out again. There was a thread about it in the Yaris T-Sport section iirc.

Really? I've been in 5th and 6th as much as possible after only four days of owning her! I blew my first tank in no time

I have read some where, but can't find the link again, that the 2ZZ-GE engine has been tested at 8200rpm (Red Line) for over 30,000 hours and didn't break :o :D

So you should be fine for a couple of hours at 5000rpm

Oh ive had fun today!!!!

it was 4000rpm is was tested at........... seen the same thing, it was a link on here time ago i think?

enjoy your T Sport Luimni  good oil and regular changes is the only way with these, they love V power too. Putting decent oil in the box is a wise move too

edit- just realised your on the other side of the water - you dont get V power? whats the score there?

Do not put E85 in it. You'll destroy it. Thats 85% bio ethanol. What you want is E5 from maxol, 5% bio ethanol, thats 99ron. I dont know anything bout the emo stuff.

Hey guys,

Just thought id say, my dad tests alot of engines before they are "mass produced" for a living, and has just told me that toyota DO run the cars for ridiculus amounts of hours, covering thousands and thousands of miles with the needle bouncing off the limiter! Honda, Audi and VW do the same apparently. The 2ZZ-GE engine was co-designed by Toyota and Yamaha, hence the reason that it works in the same way a power-cam would on a bike :) so is designed to be revved very high and run at high revs!

So get her warm and rev the nuts off her! Trust me, she loves it really! (no !Removed! lol)

Very interesting about the petrol alright. The only thing i have ever thought about regarding petrol is price and trying not to put diesel in it when im half asleep in the mornings...

Right now its definatly price im worried about but in time when i really get to know my car i can tell what type is good for the engine and for performance. But im just too busy laughing all the time and listening to the engine!!!!

PS... found a lovely tunnel also, cant stop doing u turns and listening to that engine in that damn tunnel.

Yeah it does make sense about the engine alright. I ride bikes also and i do travel a lot close to the red and the engine loves it, but im just not used to doing it with a car, but an engine is an engine. Sure my bike only really performs at 7500+ revs and this is what the manufacturers state so revving the *****e out of engines must be ok.

Must head down to the shop for some milk for brekkie. mmmm i heard the milk in the next county over is pretty good.....any excuse for a spin. Later!!!

Luimni, head down towards ennis and around the bypass there, lots of road, usually not too much ttrafic either if your looking for a long spin. Milks a bargain in dunnes, ennis....

About the petrol. i meant the 5% bio added to the fuel, not the 85%, sorry. when im home i fill her up at maxol. theres a thread on driver.ie about the 85% stuff at the moment. that fuel will eat rubber apparently.
