quick question about the petrol blips.

when its down to the last blip, it beeps and starts flashing, as the manual says, but it also says these flashes will get quicker as the fuel goes down, but they seem to be flashing quickly immediatly. do you get any other warning and do they really go faster?? random I know, but don't want to run out of fuel!
