Air Con Smell?

Has anyone experienced a vinegar type smell from their a/c?

I just started getting a vinegar smell every so often - only for a few seconds. I googled vinegar smell car & got a few hits saying people got this through their a/c. I have just started using my a/c regurlarly & think it must be down to this.

Is it anything to worry about?

Also - do you get a little whoosh type sound when you turn the a/c on?

Thanks for the quick reply. The car is only 3 months old & I've only just started using the a/c - I shouldn't need to be changing filters or sanitising at this stage should I???

My Auris is 6 months old and occasionally smells, it goes very quickly, it depends how bad it is in your car! I would do it once a year if it were my car, just to kill off the nasty bugs

weve had this problem with the air con at work... the air con man came out and said it didnt smell n buggered off again! so now we just leave it off and open the door

Purely down to lack of use. It's worth using it a few times a week all year round to prevent bacteria build up which causes the smell. I never had the smell on climate control cars I've had. I suspect it's because I never turn the system off.
