Please Doctor, Can My Turbo Be Saved?

I've had a new head gasket on my 22RTE in my 86 Toyota pickup. Well, after about 200 miles, the turbo just stopped working. Then the engine had to be replaced altogether. Since then, the turbo has not worked at all. The light comes on, but no whine or extra boost. I've had the turbo unit tested and inspected twice, and it achieves proper boost pressure and seems to work perfectly. But when it's bolted to the engine and asked to do its job on the road, it just won't go. (One of the mechanics I talked to said keep driving it and see if it breaks loose.......) Thanks for any help. -Keith

strange, id check all the induction hoses as if the turbo is working fine when tested and hasnt got a broken shaft or missing blades it should work on the car.

a split pipe between the turbo and the inlet will lead to no boost
