Dear Forum,

I have an Aygo Blue - it comes with bluetooth integration. I am looking to spend about £150 improving my sound system. I understand from reading the forum with such a small budget it would be best if I buy a small underseat sub and put highpass filters on the other Speakers.

My question:

1- Is this the best use of my money?

2- Does having the bluetooth integration make it harder to change the head unit?

Many thanks,

M.

Depends, If I had £150 I would be using it for a tank of petrol and a new pair of shoes, but each to their own!

Sorry no idea on your question but welcome to the club anyway :D

If you are keeping the standard head unit i would go for replacement Speakers, I have Infinity's front and back @ £88 for 2 pairs from car audio direct, and the underseat sub, i paid £55 for my mutant sub collected or they are £65 delivered, which pretty much gets you to your £150.

I'm also looking to upgrade my system. I went to Halfords to have a play with the Speakers and found the best 4"s there were the Sony xs-a1027 which I've found for about £25 online (£40 in store). I would think a sub would help a great deal with the small cones.

If i were you i'd just change the headunit itself, you'd be suprised on modern cars how much better the system sounds on the standard Speakers. me however, well i am well into my music so i spent a grand on my install lol

Thank you everyone for your replys...

Big-Boyz - can you remember with inifinty model you went with? How did you secure the sub to the floor? Did you have to remove the seat? Did you wire it into the Battery?

Beachbuggy - i have the factory installed bluetoouth system which might prevent me from swapping out HU..

From here http://my107.blogspot.com/2007/11/infinity...e-speakers.html the Infinity REF4022i seem to be a good fit. Once I decide which are the best sound and fit I will order four plus a new headunit and maybe and underseat sub once I've tested the Speakers. I keep getting tempted with the cheap 7" dvd/tv/gps units on eBay but thinking the quality of them is a worry.

AFAIK the factory system is plugged in between the ISO-connectors for the radio, so swapping should be easy.

The only "proprietary" connection is the location of the mute-wire on one of the mini-ISO's, for an aftermarket

radio you might need to relocate/rewire that; my Kenwood neede Phone-Mute to be connected to a brown wire

from the radio OUTSIDE of the ISO-plugs...

I may be interested. Does it fit neatly in the box. I would prob wire in for easy removal so I can gain my boot back when needed.

Mine fit very well, the sub popped so its just an empty box lol.

I have another person interested if it will fit in the Aygo boot, but i need to measure the box and let you know as it may not fit.

First of all its BOZ not BOYZ, im not dressed in spandex and living in 80's Pop!!

Otherwise the infinitys are "refference" 10cm's, needed a bit of messing about to get the fronts in as the underside of the speaker grilles needed shaping with a stanley knife to get them to fit.

The sub is velcroed to the floor and i didnt need to take the seat out to fit it and it is wired ito the Battery, if you look for one of my other topics "underseat sub - Fitted" i have posted a fitting guide, took me less than an hour. I did remove the standard head unit the day after i got my platinum as it was a bunch of ***** and swapped it for my Pioneer 6300MP which promptly blew one of the poxy paper Speakers at the front, hence why i replaced them.

I have a spare set of the infinitys if you are interested, in box never used, forgot i had them before i ordered some more. I accept paypal, £40 delivered if you want them.

BIG BOZ (not the 80's pop star!) - thank you for the offer but I think I am going to install the sub and then see if I'm happy with the original headunit / Speakers.. I don't use the car that often so can't justify forking out for new HU and Speakers straight away.

I'm going to go ahead and buy the http://www.blaupunkt.com/uk/7606305001_main.asp 200a for £99 delivered. If i understand your post BIG BOZ - i also need to buy a fuse, cut the cable near the Battery and insert the fuse between the two ends of the power cable..

Many thanks,

M

WOOOOOAAAAAAAA there chief. Dont cut the power cable from the Battery!! The Sub you have bought should come with a basic wiring kit that should have a power lead with an in line fuse that you will need to run to the Battery.

As per my fitting guide (will be the same for my mutant sub as it will be for yours) there is a rubber bung that takes the Heater pipes through the bulk head in the Passenger footwell that you can run the power cable through. I would recommend getting some decent quality power and speaker cables though, crappy standard interconnects wont do you any favours.

Let me know if you need any advice.

I tried to install this today - did not go well.

1- First problem was getting wire with inline fuse into engine area (fuse was very big).. Got round this by removing fuse from wire and then reattaching.

2- Second problem was that the connection on the end of the power cable was not an ( shape and so did not fit on the Battery

3- Third, i could not work out how to attached the control cable to the iso connector block

Result was that I blew one fuse (one for audio which also powers inside light), i replaced the fuse and now inside lights work but hifi does not (cd ejected but does not power on).. I assume power is getting to it but maybe the control wire is fried).. So no hifi!!

Fortunately I think I'm still until warranty so maybe Toyota will be able to fix it...

If you need a hand PM me as I am also in London.

I picked up my car from Toyota today - problem fixed.. I then drove to an audio installer in south london.. It hurt, but I paid £50 to have the sub installed.. Very neat job, much better than I could have done.. I'm very impressed with the sound - not had much experience of car subs so maybe i'm easily impressed..

Is there any point replacing the Speakers if I'm keeping the original head unit? (Don't want to change that just yet)..

Nah don't bother. It wouldn't benefit you.
