Top Speed

Rite lads

The t sport official top speed is 140mph, the most iv seen in it was 120mph (when i was in Germany!!!!)

Now she not to hot in the bends when it on standard suspension, which mine is and Im not going to lower it because of the road in Ireland but it fairly good in a straight line and grand for normal road use.

My question is if i were to take it on a track day which track in the UK has the longest straight where i would have the best change of seeing 140mph

Thruxton, silverstone???

Anyone see 140mph by the way??

Thanks

Ive had 138 in fith, changed up to 6th and there was'nt much left :(

But im confident you could hit 140 given enough road, sorry i mean track :D

I'm surprised you only managed 120mph on an Autobahn. They're usually great for top speed runs. I Managed just over 120 in a weedy 1.6 Astra Twintop, and a little bit more in the A3 2.0 TDI we had too (good old hire cars). I would expect to be able to get well over 130 in the CTS.

You might be better trying Millbrook for top speed tests...

Are these speeds on the clock or GPS?

I ask as a few years a go when on a Volvo track day i got a S60 T5 to show 155MPH on the speedo but only 140ish on the GPS Sat Nav as per the normal speedo tolerance.

If the official CTS top speed is 140 i would guess you would need to see 150+ on the clock.

I've had over 140Mph. According to the dials anyway, not forgetting you need to deduct a good 6-7Mph maybe more from what you see.

Not too sure on the Track matter though. Just go back to Germany, Probably end up being cheaper anyway.

I've always wondered about this... Tried it a few times driving at a steady 100(on the speedo) and resetting the trip computer, the first average speed will read in the low 90's... Speedo's seem to be set high for some reason!

They're set high on all cars, Only cars with Digital dials have like a 99% correct readout.

Best thing to do is use a Satnav. They're always spot on.

Speeds were on a Tom Tom for me. Not sure what the speedos were on, would have been in kph anyway.

Never done a top speed run in my CTS but the speedo is about 5% over so would need 147mph or so on the clock to hit a real 140.

pre facelift top speed 147

facelift top speed 143

i heard there was something called the 147 club down at the toyota plant in Derby, to join it you had to take picture of the speedo at 147mph on the dual carriageway outside the plant.

also years ago my team leader took me out in his pre facelift t sport an hit 140mph without any effort

Well when i say Germany i meant really really really west Germany

I wouldnt mind taking it on the autobahn thou(again i mean), if you were caught doing that sort of speed on a public road in UK or Ireland be looking at jail time not to mention the risks, which i would never dream of and would never recommend on a family forum....... yada yada yada..... condone racing....yada yada yada......

Millbrook, that was the one on top gear before i think, james may had the jag, clarkson had the starion. That would do the trick, nice and legal. I wonder do they open it to the public. Ill have to put on my investigating hat on :D

Millbrook is not normally open to the general public and only official test drivers are allowed over 100MPH on the high speed bowl

looks about 250km so thats around 156mph :o very impressive. you seem to have plenty of revs left. id thought you would be nearly at redline at that sort of speed

good clear photo :)

Yea that pics cool. Top marks

Id say my best bet would be a trackday at thruxton, i dont know do they let you onto the GP circuit at Silverstone. £150 for thruxton and it not to far away.

Either that or Gemany, but id need more reasons than just that to go there

Track time at Silverstone could be bought at the recent Jap Tuners Show.

I think it was £35 a session IIRC

That would be ok. Id want to have a go on the GP circuit, not the national. 35 sounds good, guessing like 20 min?

the speedo on my compressor is spot on. Cruising at 100mph the speedo and the sat nav read the same.

most i've had is 130 but there was plenty left.

at jts was indeed £35 quid a session (i had one, was ace!) but it was the national circuite (ie the smaller one) the GP circuit isn't open that often, funnily enouhg it's mostly used for GP's. the paying public get the national as it's less hassle for the organisers.
