My Auris Got "rear Ended"!

Yep, having owned and rejected one Auris, my new SR180 arrived in March 2008.

This Auris has been fault free, and a damn fine car so far, so on Saturday I went to collect a boot liner for my car, as they really fit the load area well.

Anyhow, on the way while sitting in traffic my little Auris got rear ended by a Rover 25. The Rover didn't come off too bad, my Auris will probably need not only a new rear outer plastic bumper, but also the inner metal bumper, and the bodywork around the inner metal bumper respraying.

One bit of good news, in just over an hour after the accident happening the Rover owners insurance had called me, admitting liability, and offering to collect and repair the car. As I want it to go to a Toyota Approved Body Shop I refused and will be sorting that tomorrow. It's amazing how quick the third parties inurer Norwich Union reacted, things must move rather quick these days.

It's just damn annoying that now I have a great car at last, someone has to drive in to it. I just hope that between myself, Toyota World Birmingham, and my Insurers (Marks and Spencer) Accident management we can find a body shop to take good care of my little baby Auris.

Keep your fingers crossed everybody.

I'm sorry to hear that brother and glad to hear that you're okay. I wish you good luck with the repairs, I hope that it turns out as you expect. ;)

Oh, by the way... Are there any after pictures of the car?

No pictures as of yet, but not much to see without removing the rear outer bumper.

Damage that I am aware of so-far is...

Rear Outer Bumper.

Rear Inner Bumper.

Body work around rear inner bumper mountings.

Drivers Side rear light pushed towards inside of car.

"Stress mark" in paintwork on panel between Drivers Side Rear light, and rear passenger door.

Here's hoping there is a decent Toyota Approved Body Shop in the West Midlands that can make things better. If anyone knows one please let me know.

Sorry to hear about your bump mate. Hope the car is not too badly damaged. The other guys insurance company wouldnt be able to do anything but admit liability, same thing happened to me about 2 years ago when i had my corolla, stopped in traffic and a range rover went right into back of me. Had phone call within the hour same as you.

Hope you get it sorted mate

What a sickener! Get yer car just right and then the unforeseen happens. Its happened to me years ago but involved my E type Jaguar and an awful lot off money, I was in misery mode for months until it was put right again. . Good you refused the Norwich Union repair offer, make sure the repairer is your choice.

Quick update... The Norwich Union Approved Repairer is.... Toyota World Birmingham!

Purely for ease and speed, I'm now going to let Norwich Union deal with Toyota World, and hopfully on Monday the go-ahead for repairs to start will be given. Evidently despite the fact they have photographic information, they have to book a "diary date" to view the photos they have on e-mail, and that day is Monday.

In some ways I guess this is a little better than using my own insurers, all they have had to do is be notified for information only.

So fingers crossed for Monday... and I wonder what "Catergory D" Hire Car I will get, it could be one of many! Lol!

Can't wait to get my litte Auris back to how it used to be.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just a quick note...

It's back!

The only difference between how it was, and how it used to be is that the "rear bumper garnish" as fitted to my SR180 was originally Anthracite to show up on the Eclipse Black Paintwork, and has now been replaced by a black one as fitted to other colour Auris.

As I prefer the subtle look, and think "Black on Black" looks better, I'm a happy bunny!

Once the paints had a week to "harden off" I'll give the whole car a coating of Auto Glym Super Resin Polish, followed by High Gloss Protector.

Sorry to hear about the rear ending of your Auris, but very pleased that it was sorted out in what seems like an acceptable time scale.

Nice to hear you've got it back.

Maybe you could upload a few "rear bumper garnish" photos showing the difference between the black on black and the anthracite on black. Thinking of fitting to my T180.

Sure, will see what I can sort later on tonight. I definately have photo's of "Before", I just need to take one or two of "After".

My SR180 Eclipse Black with the Black Rear Bumper Garnish.

The colour of this "Garnish" also tends to blend more with the Mudflaps, and the plastic found elsewhere on the car. But I do appreciate that everyones taste is different.

Last but not least I had a voucher for 20% off Accessories from Toyota World so having previously ordered and collected a boot liner, I decided to order the Under Parcel Shelf Stowage Box to finish off the load-space... and here it is if you're interested.

Nice to see both types.

Both look good, as you say the black goes well with other black plastic parts, think I prefer the grey more for contrast, but might still make own solution. Virtually all hatchback manufacturers now have some sort of rear bumper diffuser and most seem to have made a much better job than Toyota half-hearted attempt.

Glad to hear the third party Insurer sorted it all out for you with no problems.

I must say that your Auris does look very very shiny indeed .

I'm glad to hear that it all worked out for you brother.

I have a question though, I don't have that plastic thing on my rear bumper and I can't see it in the accessory catalog.

Is that an aftermarket part?

That is the rear diffuser 'decal' which is exclusive to the sr180

Oh, is that a rear diffuser? I thought they looked something like this:

RE-Amemiyareardiffuser-GRP.jpg

I guess that's why they call it a decal. Well, anyways, it looks pretty nice, completes the design and the rear bumpers emptiness in my opinion. Maybe I'll get one made from fiberglass.

Also matching colour of mudflaps looks way better than the old one, and thank you for the reply.

It's amazing how quick the third parties inurer Norwich Union reacted

This happened to me a few weeks ago and the 3rd parties insurer was Norwich Union, they were very helpful and accommodating, similar to yourself I wanted to use a body shop of my choice and they were helpful even with arranging a hire car because the body shop couldn't provide a courtesy car within two weeks.
