Im phoning up the insurance company tomorrow i was under the impression that the car was insured from when the took the payment/deposit?

When I picked mine up on Friday from Inchcape they gave me 7 days free insurance, mainly so they code tax the car. Can to phone Norwich Union and quote a dealer code. Was straight forward and they sent a cover note to the dealer in 10 mins.

I must be with the wrong insurer, have to wait for it to come through snail mail to me to then get to the dealer - I didn't want the certificate going straight to the dealer, last time it was attempted on my last car I bought my insurer totally mucked it up and failed to send it to the dealer. Never again - not worth the stress

At least when I amended my car details on my policy tonight I got a nice refund on my current premium :D

Good news about your car! :-)

You will need to get the insurance cover note on headed paper so they can get the car taxed before they will let you take it away. Most insurers will send it out in time, make sure to tell them when u need it for. Mine arrived in the post just a few hours before i was due to go collect!

I wanted to use my own insurance from day one so what I did was change my policy for the collection day (got a nice refund aswell), and canceled my free insurance the day before collection. The dealer advised me to do this as there free insurance was just used to allow them to tax it.

Yeah, my deal was good though. Brand new aygo plat 3dr MTT, list price is £9000 and haggled down to £7850 and got a the parkers trade price for my old rover 25. It was a show room model that been there for a week so from deposit to collection was 7 days and saved me the 6 week factory order wait. Only pain was I had to travel 180 miles each way but was nice to take the car for a long spin and to break the engine in. All in all I think I got a good deal.
