Avensis T3s Ecu Problem

Hi

I have an Avensis T3S on a 53 plate with an ECU Problem. My engine management light keeps coming on.

Ive had a new air lamba sensor, didn't cure it, had the cat checked they say its ok, light goes off after diagnostic check for a couple of days unless I use Optimax fuel, then it stays off about a month. The car is using oil (not dramatically) and looks like its running a little rich.

We've had it into the Toyota dealer, they say it looks like the ECU is buggered and it could have damaged the cat. They say we need a new ECU but cannot guarantee that replacing the ECU and cat will cure the problem.

Any Ideas on possible cures or explanations.

Hi Christine ............ Have you thought about the Mass Airflow Sensor? I had exactely the same problem that you describe on a previous car and replacement of the MAS cured the problem. That said, I'm no expert so perhaps a PM to Kingo (Parts King) would be the best way forward.
