This post should upset a lot of people ;)

Here are the petrol prices (with the tax rate on the right) going back to 1938, the pre decimalisation ones are 240 old pennies to the pound.

The list only goes up to 2004 but we all know what todays prices are-ish!!!!

So when I was born it would have cost 16.5p per gallon

At 17 years old with my first car it was 30.8p per gallon

Todays price £5.41 per gallon!!!!!

Makes you laugh @ the same time @ the absurdity of our 2 Governments.

They want us to drive smaller cars or use Public Transport They want us to stop smoking (on my 6th pipe today) & advise against drink.

What hypocrisy ! If they didn't have the tax income from these they would go broke

BTW, Les. Does the tax section in your excellent list include VAT, or is it just the direct levy on fuel ?

I can remember being at the petrol station with some of my old scooter friends ( in the early60's ), when as a special you culd but 4 gallons for £1 ( We could only fit 1 gallon each at at time in the scooter ! )

it makes me laugh though if they all want us to use renewable low co2 fuels, why havent we got bio diesel and bio ethanol at the pumps over here like other European country's? cos they cant tax em thats why

No use Les, but thanks. I'm 1941 & as no one is as old as me Despite the rule that you are only as old as the woman you xxxx I would guess Kingo is 1959 (Apologies if wrong guess, Mate)
