Just Done The Airbox Mod

As above, just removed the intake pipe to the airbox. Pleased with the results, the car is alot more rapid now and it's not the placebo noise effect either. Had a couple of probs though after disconnecting the Battery.

:(

When the sidelights or headlights are switched on the backlight for the dashboard dims to almost nothing, also the auto down and up on the windows has stopped working you have to keep it pressed down. I'm thinking the windows are a latch issue. I'm hoping its all fuses, anyone else had these probs?

With the window fully up push the window button fully down until the window is at the bottom of it travel, then hold the button till the window is all the way up. That programs them

For the back light on the spedo , press the trip reset button near the mileage display until you go through trip a, then trip b, after that you should come to a load of ---------- things. If you hold in the button then you can adjust the brightness of the display. You need the lights on to do this

Take off your filter box lid, remove the filter and you will see a pipe connected to it at the bottom. This pipe runs down your wing, round your Battery, back up on itself then points at the Battery - a pretty long straw for some big lungs to breathe through! I took the Battery out to get it out its literally a couple of screws and pop clips and it's off, then you will notice an improvement, I have anyway.

Just a placebo effect

As I said before, the noise fades away once you are going so there is not anything there to be a placebo. Take a look at the pipework and you will see how restrictive the air box is. But I ain't going to hold my seal to anything - try it it takes 30 minutes, if you dont approve put it back on, an hours work for a small experiment. I'll tell you now I'm glad I didn't fork out 180 odd quid for an Induction Kit.

I done this yesterday and it is alot more noticeable seems to pick up low end and it does sound alot louder than standard i cant beleve the pipe is that long to be honist and i thought it was rediculess in the first place the way it is angled away from the front of the car. where does the other bit go though when it splits into 2?

I will have to try this when l get home.

My only question is wont this suck warmer air into the engine ???

I think the point is that the stock pipe is extremely restrictive and actually points the wrong way so the inlet never gets any clean, cold air. So it is a choice between no air at all, or some warm air.

At the end of the day it is completely reversable so keep an eye on economy and be honest about throttle response and if you aren't happy with the result then put it back on again.

i have removed the Battery for more room to move but i still cant get it out

There is a clip or screw near to this wing pipe that you need to remove and then it will lift straight out. It's raining outside so no pics!

I might fab up some pipe pointing the right way and see if i get more power.

I'm interested in trying this one...

Can anyone see any problems that could be caused?

Also if someone could post a few pics of exactly what they removed, that'd be great...

having thought about this some more, i think the toyota intake is mounted the right way. The tyres spinning would force the airflow back towards the intake.

worst thing that could happen is the performance gets worse.

maybe but readoing around the pipe only seems to be there to reduce induction noise and actually stifle the engine for this reason.

removing any obstruction that restricts to travel more easily to the engine is going to help in some way or other.

there's two aspects here, if the air intake is in the engine bay the air will be

a) lower pressure

B) hotter

c) less restriction

Leaving the airtake in has the following air will be

a) higher pressure

B) colder

c) more restriction.

Basically its whether the combination of A and B is more than C that determines it.

Anyhow I have now changed the air filter from the one that came with the car to one of those blitz LM things that i got from Envy. In my humble opinion for what its worth i don't think its made a blind bit of difference to getting the boggo air filter from Toyota. Throttle response was the same too.

next step is to try the mod which i'm going to do tomorrow.
