Avensis Aura 2008

Hi I purchased a new Avensis Aura 1600 cc (Jan 2008) Very little mileage clocked to date 2000Kms! A noise (rattle)has developed under left side of the dashboard. The rattle developed suddenly and sounds like as if something has come loose. The rattle is accentuated when the car is driven on an uneven surface. I checked the glove compartment but that does not seem to be the problem. The sound seems to come from the engine side of the glove compartment. The sound is rythmical as if something is loose. Any ideas suggestions would be appreciated. Will have to go back to my dealer anyway but thought I would see if anyone else has come across this problem.... Thanks Tony

hi does it rattle when the car is still or when on the move could be just the speedo cable

I doubt it uses a speedo cable, its all electronic speed signals these days. :)

Have you checked around the passenger airbag? Not sure what an Aura is but alot of dash rattles are usually looms not insulated properly.

I don't have an Avensis so may not be relevant but I too had a dashboard rattle - coming from around the glovebox area - for some time. I removed the glovebox and checked things like the wiring looms (as helpfully mentioned here by Moonstone Mart) but to no avail. Spend quite a lot of time trying to sort it off and on. Eventually tracked it down to the fusebox cover behind the glovebox. Although it was clipped on properly it still rattled. In the end I managed to fix it with a small piece of cardboard wedged against the fusebox cover - bliss

The way I found it was to remove the glovebox and drive round with my wife in the passenger seat gently prodding and pushing bits of plastic where the glovebox was
