Thought I'd post this up to make all you guys who have had clutch problems put things into perspective!!!

The Fiat Punto in our 'stable' went for a 2 mile run to the shops and back today. Father was driving as he often does.

The clutch failed. Well, maybe not failed - no sign of slipping or usual.

Melted.

The classic smell of a slipping clutch was there, but NO drive AT ALL.

Ah well, you may say.....its happens.

However - the car has done 22,762 miles - is a 2004 model - exactly 4 years and 3 months old.

And, :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: this is its SECOND clutch! The first lasted 20,070 miles. The second clutch lasted 2,702 miles.

No, he's not getting an automatic - too many tales of auld drivers pressing the gas pedal instead of the brakes!!

He can't hear the engine screaming when he's letting the clutch out so I guess the third clutch will be a racing clutch!!

Needless to say, he doesn't get a shot of either number 1 or number 2 RAVs.

I might switch him to the landrover, and buy him a set of steps to clamber in.......his chest is bad from smoking years ago anyway!!!

So when yer clutch goes at 30,000 miles, smile cos the auld man wid have used 15 by then...15 times £300!!! :toast:

Pocket money??

The stingy auld busaaaard has enuf in his current account tae buy twa new Puntos!! I'll just make some commission on the repair - pay for some of the engine swap of number 2!

Could think about starting a betting book on how long the next clutch will last????? The racing clutch is oot as it wouldnae stand up tae the slipping.
