Out 2004 Previa T-Spirit has B9000 colour satnav. About a year ago it started to fail occasionally, reporting errors similar to "unable to read DVD". This got worse and eventually it wouldn't stay operational for more than a couple of minutes. We cleaned the lens using a commercial lens cleaning disk and this fixed the issue completely - for about 8 months. Recently it started failing again and we cleaned the lens again. But it worsened rapidly and now it can't even get started despite many cleanings. We are sure it's just a problem with the DVD mechanism - the rest of the unit (software, park assist, GPS,receiver, CD etc) is all fine. Our local main dealer tried to turn it on twice, put a new disk in it, and pronounced it unfixable. The price of their wisdom? - £42. We can have it replaced for a mere £2300, which is just unreasonable.

Can anyone recommend a skilled repair firm who could actually take the lid of this unit and repair the 10% that isn't working?

I have found a couple of postings about removing the head but they don't go into much detail. I'll have a go and post my experiences with some pictures, however it goes! If anyone has any tips before I have a go at the weekend please post.

How did this turnout please? We have the same kit (2005) and would be useful to have a contact...

TIA,
