Julian

Search my threads and you will find the answer. Currently i think there is only a dutch firm, i havent got round to contact them to see if they can send me the hard/software so that i can have it done in the UK. Takes it up to 81BHP, which should be quite lively.

I think it worked out to £300, which isnt bad for ECU remap.

Keep us posted on this please. I'd like to see how this turns out!

OR if you want you could contact a UK based ECU re-mapper - Dastek

They've done plenty of re-maps for the Almera Owners Club when i was a member there - give them a shout

Does this reduce the mpg? If it does I'd not be interested in it.

they always seem to say it improves it.

There must be some sort of downside to it. Does it reduce the engine life? Does it use up more oil etc

MPG will improve based on, you will get the same power as standard but at lower revs, thus if you were to drive at the same speeds and accelerate at the same rate with a re-mapped engine, you will be doing so at lower revs and thus use less petrol. Lets face it though if you are getting your car chipped, its because you wanna go faster!

There should be no effect on engine wear in the same vain, ie if you drive harder you will cause more engine wear.

I have fired off a few e-mails today to local ECU specialits local to leeds. I will post any info i get from replies.

Im an R driver and by in large, I only go faster than 45 if its overtaking (e.g. last night, a guy in a suv doing 25!!)

If its economically worth it then I would get it chipped to improve the MPG

I have a Volvo T5 that has been remapped. Most manufacturers account for these engines taking aftermarket tuning and tweaking etc. They tune the hell out of them and then back off the tuning, to account for economy, performance, and lack of regular maintenance. They try to get a balance of all three.

My Volvo went from 225bhp and 300nm of torque to 300bhp and 400nm of torque, all I have to do is change the oil more regularly, and I gained about 5% increase in fuel economy, which is what I would do with the aygo when I remap it (not IF!)

Your fuel economy will go up at certain revs, and it what is more noticeable is the torque is up by 31nm nearly 25% increase, so driving the car with 4 people in must be easier.

I would, and put a flat panel filter in as well. It's a subtle mod, but useful.

Modern engines are very flexible and bearing in mind the Aygo has a chain driven engine, very rev happy already and resilient, a 'safe' map should only enhance the engines characteristics. Now what is a 'safe' map depends entirely on the Mapper you use and your own common sense. Clearly if someone wants to ramp up the Aygo to 100BHP with just a map, I would be wary. I would be happy with around 80BHP from a map and would consider it safe (it'd be around 13.something percent increase)...

The problem with a remap in the UK for the Aygo is that currently they are not very common. I found one place but they wanted £500. Or 5% of the value of the car for about 7-10bhp. Guido has his done at My107 over in Holland ( Belgium?) which was cheaper. That gives a similar amount I think, with his air induction and exhaust he is up to about 85bhp.

As Citi cars get more popular with scappage etc we may see more offerings. I contacted superchips and they told me no go though as it was not compatible with their software.

Andy

Has anyone done this in recent times? I know numerous people will say there is little point in remapping such a small engine ect, but just curious!

Just my 2 pence worth......

As the Aygo comes from the factory, it is running "correctly".

Each time the engine sucks in air, the ECU map provides the right amount of fuel to make the best bang possible.

Without modifications, the ECU map cannot really be improved upon.

Toyota WILL have spent a lot of money in research.

IF you greatly improve the amount of air the engine can use, adding fuel in the correct amounts WILL provide more power.

eg. polishing / porting the head, wild camshafts, reduced exhaust back pressure, reduced intake temperature / resistance.

A map from a tuner with no other mods will not improve on things.

I believe the only huge gains to be had from a map are on forced induction / turbocharged cars.

It's relatively simple to force more air into the engine. A remap will supply the right amount of fuel.

So torque will increase.

All things being equal, power should increase accordingly.

I wouldn't bother on a modern normally aspirated modern motor.

Ian.

(Before anybody mentions it, I'm aware that the engine doesn't "suck" air in,

atmospheric pressure forces it in).

I don't want to start a war on technical terms etc.

I do know the difference between torque & power etc.

Good post by Unklian - in a normally aspirated car throwing £300+ at a ECU remap will achieve very little (if anything).
