Knocking Engine, Advice Please.

Hi all,

Last night whilst on the way home from work, i noticed a knocking noise from the engine at about mid revs. When i got back i thought I'd better check the oil, after realising i hadn't for a while now. You guessed it, it was low. I topped the oil up right away but the knocking is still there. I guess it's only going to get worse now.

I'm not too sure where to go from here. Do i book it into Mr T to have it diagnosed or bite the bullet and start thinking about a replacement engine? My only worry about taking it to toyota is getting a massive bill just to tell me i need a new engine, and the fact I'm not too sure how keen they'll be to work on an import.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Justin

Hi There, I had similar problem, I have just changed my engine, dont bother taking it to Toyota, they quoted me £3400 minimum and they said I might spend a couple of thousands more depending on what they find when they open up the engine.

I bought an engine for about £900 and used £350 to fit it. They are other options. There are many specialist engine centres that will either recondition the old engine or replace the engine for under £1500 with 1 year gurantee.
