Weird Rattle / Squeek Coming From Inside Car

My 1300 mile Auris is lovely, except one annoyance.. When driving up the motorway or a dual carriageway between say 60 and 75 (indicated) mph I get an annoying noise develop.

It seems to start after about 5 miles at such speeds and continue sometimes for the whole trip and sometimes it stops of it's own accord.

I can only describe it as a rattle or tapping noise, but it's quite high pitched, maybe more of a squeek and the noise is continious. It seems to be coming from inside the dash somewhere, it's hard to tell as of course at those speeds you have a bit of tyre and wind noise too.

I've tried poking the dash around, checked behind the glovebox and I've got nothing in the car except me, so what could it be??

Maybe someone with a similar issue could shed some light before I go and replicate it to Mr. T

:)

I hate to say this, but the Auris has had a few problems with squeeks and rattles, and to a certain extent (and I know it's not what you want to hear) if it's not too bad I wouldn't go down the route of the garage going behind the dashboard and potentially creating even more disturbing noises.

In my experience some Auris are better than others in the "rattle free" department, but they really should have this problem sorted now it's over a year since the launch.

I see what you're saying AA, but this noise was a bit too much to put up with on a £18k car that was sold to me on its refinement. Anyhoo, i booked it into Mr. T; its going in in a week or so so I'll see what transpires :)

  • 3 weeks later...

Well the noise never went away and in fact got worse after a long trip on the continent.

It is currently back at Mr.T who agree there is a noise but cannot trace it after 3 days with the car.

I've given them another 2 days to try and sort it and we'll take it from there. :)

I do hope they sort it though :( :(

a local dealership to me has had two auris with the same problem. they took the centre of the dash up and there were two air cond pipes rattling together once the car heated up. a slight adjustment and some felt done the trick. twice. both 57 plate auris.
