Shocking Insurance!

This is so puzzling you will not beleive what insurance quotes are giving me and i am lost beyond words, i recently got insured on a bmw 320ci convertible 04 shape for 1200 quid under my parents, the whole family of 4!

I then did the same quote to try and get insured on a mercedes e200 kompressor also 04 reg and my quote with business miles for my parents was 1700 to 2000 depending on which insurer i took on confused.com

Iv tried the t sport with the same details........LOWEST QUOTE.....2300 AND THATS WITH LIEING TO SEE HOW LOW IT CAN GO.......

IF I TELL THE TRUTH LIKE I DID ON THE MERCEDES AND BMW....3300 STARTING!

WHY....THATS SHOCKING.

secondly on a type r its also more 4000

and the rav4 is also minimum 2300....

is it me or are japanese cars just expensive to insure because thats really annoying i wanted a t sport but if i can see my self gettin insured on cars like mercedes, and bmws....its luring me away, i can get insured on a 328i bmw for 1800 fully comp.

Im 19 with 3 penalty points but no accidents.

anyone else go through the same thing.

You could always wait a couple of years then the quotes will have dropped a bit. To be fair though you

are only 19 with 3 points and you want a fast hot hatch, insurance isnt really going to be cheap now is it. I

was driving a 1.3 mini when i was 19 now im on a 1.6 16v at 21.

My first car was a Peugeot 206 1.4 8V on a Yreg with a whopping 75Hp. My Insurance for the first year was £2000, second was £1400 and third was about £1200.

Now We've got the CTS, for me & my girlfriend (She's main driver, I'm named) with Direct Line, our first year was again £1400. Our re-quote came through 2 months ago and we now pay £940. She's 25 tomorrow and I'm 22.

Handy having a 25 Yr old girl with 4 Years NCB on the policy

It’s all relative really, when your insurance company find out that you have been fronting and lying, your policy will be null & void anyway.

At the end of the day you are 19 and have already collected 3 points (Speeding by any chance?). You are a high risk to the insurance companies so expect to pay top premium for any sports/performance car.

At the end of the day at some point you will need your own insurance in your own name with your own no claims. The longer you put it off the more expensive it will be.

The sensible answer would be to down grade to an Aygo type car, take out your own policy and work towards earning your no claims and not piggy back off someone else, but that won’t happen as no 19 year old I know would take that sort of advice ;)

Yea definitely i mean its not the point about getting the insurance cheaper i think up to 1700 is expected i started on a 1.0 107 like the aygo when i first started driving, then the corolla straight after my insurance is high on the corolla thats in my name building my NCB so thats alright its just about getting my name underneath someone im already on a bmw we were going to use it for the mercedes as we have business covers. Obviously were not going to lie to insurance it was just to check to see the insurance policy how low it could have been i told the truth on all the other cars the bmw the mercedes but the toyota is still rocket high. i am looking to get a t sport but i may consider a older 328i bmw convertible e36 now.

I can see your frustration! Everyone struggles when they are a younger driver unfortunately. When I was 19, I bought a j reg escort cabriolet which was group 15 at the time and could only insure it as a named driver in my dads name. The premium was through the roof but thats because I was on the policy. It would only have been a few hundred quid with him on it, so they take that into account. I had to register it in my dads name too to avoid not getting a payout if it was written off as they would have known he was fronting the policy by my name on the log book

Trouble is as TVOR said, one day you'll have to get it on your own. What I did (although im not suggesting you do it and have prepared my flameproof suit!) is insure a garaged group 2 nissan micra third party only (cheapest possible) on a 5000 limited mileage 'social only' policy with my existing 1 years no claims. I didnt own the car. Was a mates mums. Took down the reg and insured it. She knew and didnt mind as I was never going to claim on it, obviously, but just renewed the policy for three years and also paid for the policy on the escort in my dads name with me on it in parallel. Then a couple of years later, I insured it in my own name with my now 4 years no claims and it was much cheaper! Obviously there are ethical issues there but they would never know, and no claims discount is just an agreement between insurers, nothing legally binding. Turning 25 dropped my insurance massively although that was 3 years ago and it has since gone up!

There are many things that 'load' the policy between cars too. Say for example the t-sport is a group 13 and a bmw is also. If that particular insurance company receives more claims for t-sports than bmws in say one year, then they will load the premiums on the t-sport even though they are in the same group. Well, they did at Churchill when I worked for them (at 19 :P ) ... thats one of the many reasons why different underwritters vary SO much.

At the moment I get a 150ish reduction in my policy (with Admiral) by insuring a female friend as a named driver rather than just having me on the policy! Its madness, as apparently from an insurers point of view, it takes the stress out of only one person being responsible to drive the vehicle. Shes never even held the car keys! Try insuring the car tsport or bmw in your name and adding your dad as the named driver and see what happens. it might come up with roughly the same quote as the other way round and you'll have your own no claims without worrying!

They are a law to their own!!

Insurance is shocking when you are younger.

I had a crappy 1.4 renault clio from 17 and it was over a grand the first year then it dropped to 800 quid.

No i'm still in my twenties and i'm in a t180 and i'm only paying £340.

I nearly did a silly thing and pushed myself to buy an RS4 with finance and even that would only cost me £860 to insure.

It defiantly gets better when you get some NCB and clean license under your belt.

Good luck; i've always been with directline btw.

i couldn't agree more with giving greenlight a go. I'll keep it brief, but at 24 i paid adrian flux 1200 big fellas for my integra type-r and at 25 was quoted 1150. Greenlight quoted £540 with mods declared - i honestly was speechless for the first time ever in my life! I'll be trying them again when my policy is due for renewal. Very helpful and know their stuff too. Totally unrelated, but why are jagerbombs so !Removed! cheap when your at work at 8?? :)

Head's up,

I'm 23 (just turned) with an 02 Pre Facelift and I'm currently paying £770 fully comp with 9 penalty points all SP30 with Greenlight. Can't beat em!

When i was 19 i had a 1.2 clio, my first years insurance was nearly 4500 euro 3 party, nearly broke my heart trying to pay it off, working every hour god sent. Didnt go out most of that year.

Paying 900 euro fully comp with 5 years no claims.

When i was 19 if could have got insured on a 190 bhp car for 2.5 to 3k i would have thought all my birthdays and Christmases had come at once. Then again when i was 19 i would probably have wrapped the car round a tree and still be paying the car off today.

The thing is if you want a fast hatch back and you male and your also 19 your going to be paying a big pile of cash to have it which ever way you go about it. Everyone's been there, i didnt want a clio, i wanted a MK 2 golf GTI golf when i was 19 but the phone call to the insurance company would suddenly end when i mentioned this!!!!!

Its life man, be glad they will take you on a bemmer

Not really much a surprise at that qoute for a TS at 19 really imo, when i was 20 i tried a qoute for my 1998 mazda 323f 1.5 under my name & a insurance co got back to me at £1700, was adrian flux as people said they were gd & reasoanble price for young poeple back then, mine wasnt really a sports car, only in looks needless to say i didnt go for them, i stuck to using my dads insurance at the time till i sold the car oh yeah even bk clean license & not exactly new driver as i passed test at 18

Just the age thing I'm afraid. First new car I bought was in 1990, a Carina II 1.6 XL, seem to remember it was about £280 fully comp, I was 28.

Any "oldies" out there with a TSport, try the Post Office -- they were the best quote by miles, £298 with the promise of £50 cashback in 60 days -cover by Norwich Union.

Yea thanks for the help guys i can understand the age i passed at 17 i think so far have been good with insurance it hasnt been rocket for nearly everything i just found the t sport quite expensive for some odd reason. I think for now ill continue working saving up and then maybe considering i really still want to buy one and if i could save some more on insurance i will defo be picking one up soon.

Looking for a facelift in possible grey or black.
