but they are all built in Czech Republic as far as I know

So you are not sure? Have you compared the Yaris 1.8SR and 1.3SR as one is Jap built and the other isn't.

Considering everyone so far has a VIN starting with J and all internet searches mention the Czech Republic factory builds the Aygo then there is a good chance the sales man is talking out of his b-side (all part of the patter) :D

I have no idea about the numbers on the VIN but here's my thought on the matter and that is to check out the make of the tyre.

It would seem sensible to source the tyre from a local manufacturer from a cost point of view. When I got my old Made in Japan Yaris it came on Bridgestones, my friends one made in France came from Michelin for instance.

Given that theory, the Continental tyres on my Aygo would suggest it was made in the Czech Republic which is just over the border. Of course this is a sensible theory, but probably someone will now shout out they have Korean Nexus tyres on theirs, so blowing my hypothesis completely out of the water ... :D

Sherlock.

At least that's different from the N on mine, and I DID find some

references to Toyota's Japanese plants having numbers for plant-codes...

QUICK UPDATE:

The very nice lady from Toyota GB rang me back.

Apparently my sons Aygo with the VIN starting JTD was built in THE CZECH REPUBLIC factory.........(according to their records)

So that blows the theory that all cars with VIN's starting JTD are built in Japan.

Strange :unsure::wacko:

I'm not so sure :o

The VIN will tell you. It's the fingerprint of every car. The first and eleventh number will tell you. Check this out:
