Traffic Notification On Sat Nav Setting

Hi All,

a couple of quick question, which most likely very difficult to answer

1:) On the setting of my Sat Nav in my 2004 TSpirit is has an option for 'Traffic Notification' does anyone have a clue?

2:) TMC, not sure if this relates to Q1, but the Manual suggests that when on Map, the little touch button, which looks like a circle with a slice, when pressed allows you to split the screen, show the compass, in the manual it also shows the facility to show TMC (traffic) data, does anyone else have the facility on their 04s?

In another thread it says about having to have the radio tuned into the Classic station, or some have a small silver box under one of the front seats, about the size of a !Removed! packed, that is a seperate receive, I can't see this, I have the AMP under the drivers and the DVD reader under the passengers.

3:) dies anyone know who the OEM manufacture of these units are?

Thanks

Chris

OK Here we go:-

The traffic notification would be by RDS-TMC (Traffic message Channel) but the receiver and decoder would not have been added to an 04 Prius. I know they are on an 07 T spirit.

The Reference to Classic Fm is that the RDS-TMC datastream is carried on spare RDS groups on the classic FM band. The sdervice comes from a company called ITIS (in Altrinchham) who contract with Toyota. The first generation receivers were single tuner so you had to be tuned to Classic fm. Most systems now have a seperate tuner which autoserches for TMC stations and just proviod ethe data stream and no audio. If you look at a TMC equipped set there is a little silver box which is the RDS-TMC receiver and decoder (it used to be made by Grundig).

The nav systems weree made by AISIN but I believe in future Tom Tom systems will be used...... I understand that TomTom have taken over much that was siemens VDO, formerely siemens and Phillips car Sstems.

And not it is not possible to/worth the ugrade! :(

Hi Traffic man,

Thanks for that. Just like to be sure. I have to admit, It was handy when I had it on my TomTom 910, but was only really used on the annual holiday.

The big plus of the Sat Nav in the car is that it's there and I don't have to keep mounting the bracket, removing and then cleaning the screen to get rid of the circle.

Thanks

Chris
