97 Corolla 1.8 Engine Ac Mystery Ques.

Hey, we have a '97 Corolla, 1.8 engine. I was looking on sites about recharging her air conditioner, when I came across a "related" video of someone changing the in-cabin air conditioning filter. I decided to check what ours was doing, since it's never been seen by human eyes since, 97. I had to remove the front panel that contains the glovebox. then, not at all like the video showed, the only "filter" I can find is a thin slice of sponge material, in bad shape & really filthy, but I don't see how to access it. So, that's supposed to be filtering the air going into the cabin of the car. Where is it & how do I clean or replace it? Can't find an exploded view to save my butt. Can anyone give help with this?

Thanks ahead of time. Tilden
