T3 2.0 D4d Diesel

Hi

I'm new to the forum but can any one tell me what i'm suppose to get to the gallon out of the t3 2.0 d4d diesel engine. Currently i'm averaging 30-34 mpg combined. Also when I fill the tank the computer reads 48-50 mpg but decreases as the fuel is used. Should i take it back to the dealer or does the engine need running in. It has approx 2500 on the clock at the moment.

Thanks

Janus

Well, it's partially because it's not run in and partially because of the cold weather, it could also be reduced whilst you have been using the A/C to demist your windscreen.

The official figures are:-

Urban : 37.7

E. Urban : 57.6

Combined : 48.7

I would give it a bit longer and see if it settles down a bit, but if not then take it back.

What method are you using to calculate your MPG from? The best way I have found is to fill it up until it stops then run it down to a set point, then fill up at the same pump until it stops again, then work it out from that.

I done about 5,000 now in my D4D T3-x... So far I've got between 51-43 mpg overall. Never trust the onboard computer....

I have an Avensis T Spirit D4D and have done over 4000 miles since new. My average consumption is 48 to 49 MPG. The worse 46.5 MPG

The computer is way out allways reading about 10MPG higer than I achieve. About time Toyota programed the computer to give an accurate reading.

Anyone know if it can be re-programmed?

If your car has such high consumption then I suggest you see your dealer,

Thanks for your comments,

Will give it another couple of thousand miles and see if it improves. By the way how are you measuring your consumption as the computer is way out and what do you think of the car so far.

make sure you drive your Diesel as you should - dont drive it as a petrol car, use higher gears... if you shift at 4,5k rpm and drive around city at >3k rpm then diesel wont save you that much gas...

Try filling up the tank next time you are in the petrol station, and reset the tripmeter. Then the next time you fill up, you note how many litres of diesel you put in. There's approx. 4.54 litres/gallon... so you can work it from there.. :)

So if my calculations are correct:

26 KM/Litre = 73,78 MPG ??? :eek::eek::eek:

Such a record for my Corona TD... B)

It's officially:

88.5bhp, which true isn't a lot, but there 0-60 is still a respectable 12.1 seconds which is nearly a second quicker than the 1.6 and the same as 1.8 Automatic, and the reason being - 150 ft.lb torque at 2200.

Torque in everyday driving is more important the BHP which is why even the old diesel with only 80 odd BHP in a big car, is still perfectly quick enough for most people.

The problem is a lot of people don't know how to drive a diesel properley so they appear to be slower than they actually are because they are trying to drive them like a petrol.

So true....

I.E. What not to do and waht to do to squezze the huge torque?
