Any Ideas On This Very Irritating Fault?

had the car ( avensis D4D 2004 ) for 2 months. while accelerating through the gears, no problem. As soon as i try and hold the revs under 50mph, the car begins to judder.

I've had the RAC out, no faults on computer show. I put it in a garage, no faults on their computer, they said there is a sensor in the fuel filter indicating a presence of water. (filter had never been changed in 4 years)

So, fuel and air filter changed...various other diagnostic checks......180 quid

Collected car, drove better but still has this judder. If in a traffic jam and crawling holding revs, I have to ease off gas pedal to avoid the judder.

when the car is stood still and idling, it's spot on.

having read through a large part of the forum, i am not really any wiser as to the cause, but:

if it was caused by water, could there still be some left going through the system. ( i have half a tank left and was going to run it very low, before filling up again)

then i was thinking about the clutch, only juddering under load??

then I read about faulty Battery

This is just one big minefield, please can anyone help I do 400 miles a week to and from work..........and to be honest feel so down i am thinking about selling.

any help greatly appreciated

Andy

I take it nobody has heard of this problem.

There’s a good chance someone has, but your post was put up on a Saturday night when most people are either out or doing other things, and now its Sunday morning and the same people are having a lie in, watching the British Grand Prix or doing other ‘Sunday Morning’ activities.

Give it a bit of time and you will get your replies

Just to many variables that can cause fault like this. Problem with modern cars is that if OBD shows no faults it can be down to guess (it shouldn't be ) work? Garages start throwing parts at car. It could be something as simple as a blocked (carbon) EGR valve, fuel pick-up unit in fuel tank. Then you have school of thought that will allways tell you need 4 new injectors & a new ECM unit as well. I see trainees using the computer & if no faults are stored they are absolutely stumped. Some times you have to put the computer away stick your head under the bonnet & look for the fault, as suggested above I have watched people pulling their hair out using computer when above suggested problem of sticking or stuck EGR valve is right in front of them, just an example.

Wait for more postings, Toyota mechanics do use forum you can tell by the suggestions they give, someone will point you in right direction.

cheers for that mate,

i know wot you mean, too many variables........

the more i drive and think about it...i am swayed towards the clutch for some reason..........there's no noise on changing gear/although the pedal is stiff, but at low revs you can hear the engine isn't happy.

i think this is going to be a game of patience

hi had a similar fault in my car... same year and model.. when your sitting still rev the car to 1500 revs and see if you get the judder, if so it could be down to a warped fly wheel.. they gave problems in this year of car and i think they upgraded it in 05.

put car into toyota last week, injectors are all in good condition. It now seems like the dual mass flywheel.

Mr T gave a qote of silly money (1500)...........general price in other garages in the region of 800

thanks for the input guys.
