Are any of your wheels buckled?

Had the same on my corolla, got them re-balanced and tracked but the problem was one of the wheels was slightly buckled and created the vibration at higher speeds.

Is it always at '70'?

I'm wondering lower suspension/wishbone balljoint or trackrod end worn.

So it's been M.O.T'ed ...then it's NOT balljoint or trackrod end as these certainly would have showed/been picked up! ...so I'm wrong there, sorry

What age is your car and what size wheels do you have?

swap the front and back wheels around... this will get rid of the buckled theory

only other thing it could be is brakes?

was it a proper mot and not just a "quickie" some garages offer...?

i did that in a proper mot garage, i did the full service as well and just don't really want to go to big garages, those garages often rip u off...

news: I went to kxxkfit but still couldn't sorted, then unfortunately the steering wheel is not upright when going straight... damn.... better find another garage to check what's wrong with the whole bit.

i used to have a similiar problem with the shaking of the steering wheel. couldnt find anything wrong with the car until i noticed that the alloy was red hot after driving for a bit. the brake was stuck on one side. this mite not be an answer to your problem but its worth a try.
