After driving for about 10 minutes my Lucida feels like the brakes are trying to work and slows the car right down. The brake pedal goes hard like the brakes are new. It almost feels like they are full of air and it needs to be released. After the engine is switched off for about 5 minutes and then switched on again they are fine again and back to normal until I drive for about 10 minutes again. Any ideas where I start to look to rectify the problem?

If it's a leak then no to both questions.

The pedal going hard may well sound like a brake servo issue but read the rest of what she said " Lucida feels like the brakes are trying to work and slows the car right down". This sounds like an ABS issue to me.

Lack of vacuum at the brake servo will indeed make the pedal feel hard due to the lack of vacuum assist but it certainly would not engage the brakes.
