Avensis Verso Losing All Power

Please can you help?

I have a 2002 Avensis Verso 2.0TD. Recently it has sufferred complete power loss a few times.... the ignition is still on and engine ticking over but no effect when dipping accelerator!! If I stop and switch off for about 2 seconds, it will then start and run as normal again. I have noticed that this only happens during hard acceleration, so I can avoid it most of the time. Took it to a local diagnostic garage and then to Toyota. They have suggested and changed various things as a result of their diagnostic tests which have so far cost me about £400. None of these have made any difference. Now Toyota say it is the turbo, and will cost a further £1600 to replace.

Has anyone sufferred similar problems? Any suggesions for me to try before replacing a turbo!! And... can anyone suggest a reliable supplier of secondhand parts cos £1600 seems steep for this annoying problem.

try the actuator on the side of the turbo if this is seized it will give all sorts of problems when car is under load.

a lot of people are having the same problem with previa's , i think toyota are fitting duff turbo's on their cars as it must be something if nearly everyone throughout the toyota range seem to be having the same things happen with the turbos
