Ae100 With 4e-fe Build

New to the tuning scene, never studied automotive but always a fan of cars especially wen it comes to performance and racing.

I built a 4E-FE engine in my AE100 corolla but today wen i thought all was well and gave her a swing, she started nicely but is very low powered to move off. Most times wen the engine is hot, the distributor has to be advanced a bit or retarded a bit for it to start normal... why is this so?

Second problem, wen i first got the car it was automatic and i never had front brakes(well not much). I found the problem with the rear left brake was ceased and the washers in the piston were gone. I bled the rear brakes and i now have alot of pressure in the front brakes but not enough in the back(hand brake that is) and i changed the brake shoes too... any advice???

I also found a leak from the water pump, i resealed it where the fan meets the water jacket but i still see a leak, does that mean REPLACE IT, am trying to be cheap here but not always the best way to go. also the radiator got a pinch but i think i will just us epoxy and fix that hole.

After that i guess the only other thing i have to do is put some gas in it

1. if the engine is hot and its not starting the didtributor advance would even make it harder to turn! retarding it should make it easier so it sounds like there is something loose in the distributor that when you turn it either way it is effecting the starting.

2. There is a t-like thing in the enginebay fittet in the brakeline called compensator which controls how much pressure goes to the rear and the front so i would check that it could be playing around.

3. a leak is a dangerous thing for the engine cos an overheating could mean bigger costly repairs to your engine and the cheap way is the most expensive most of the times! So go and change the water pump and the radiator.

Hope this helps

Well, i have sorted much of the problems. i bought a water pump and replaced it, i fixed the radiator and changed some front end parts.

but that hard start i get wen the engine gets heated i think it's due to the intake cam cuz it idles like a V-tech wen it's heated.
