Maf Sensor

Hi There

Just joined the club after recently obtained a roadster X reg, always wanted one of these cars. Soon after the EML came on and looking through previous posts the MAF could be 1 option. The job of cleaning the unit looks pretty straight forward, will spraying the cleaning fluid into the sensor clean it enough or do I need to wipe with a cloth or what. If I'm lucky enough to have cleared the problem how do I get rid of the EML or does it clear itself if the snags gone.

Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome to the club

As far as cleaning the MAF sensor goes DON'T wipe it or touch it with anything or you will damage the filament and that will cost you a couple of hundred pounds (at least) :shutit:

When you take the sensor out (as in the picture) look down the tube and you should see a shiny silver filament (like a small light bulb filament), if that is the case there is no need to clean it and you can put it back.

If it is black with soot or carbon then spray down the tube with carb cleaner till it clears then replace.

You can clear the CEL (if you haven't got an OBD2 code reader) by disconnecting the Battery for ten minutes and if the light comes back on it would be an idea to see what fault codes come up.
