Forum Problems

Hey! Does anyone else have this problem on the forum?

Every time I visit it forgets my username, even when I check the 'remember me' box.

If I read and then reply to a message it says that I'm not logged in and I have to login again. But before that I have to copy and paste what I have typed.

It's very frustrating!

never happened to me.

Sounds like it may be a setting on your computer somwhere - I'll wait for the tech boys to tell you what to do though !

Do you have cookies enabled in your browser? Here's a quick how-to if they're disabled....

How to enable cookies

1. Select the Internet Options option from the View menu.

2. Click on the Advanced tab and scroll down to the Security option, and select Cookies.

3. Click on the appropriate radio button to enable cookies.

4. Click OK.

Windows Internet Explorer 6

1. In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

2. Click the Privacy tab, and then click Advanced.

3. Move the slider up or down to select the level of security.

4. In addition to using the slider, you can override cookie handling clicking the Advanced Privacy Settings window and checking the box marked Override automatic cookie handling.

5. Click Accept.

6. Click Always allow session cookies.

7. Click OK and OK again.

Opera for Windows

1. Click the File menu and select Preferences and then Privacy.

2. Set Opera to "Automatically accept all cookies and "Accept from all servers" .

3. Make sure cookies aren't blocked under "Edit server filters..." .

Mozilla

1. Open the Edit menu and select Preferences.

2. Under the Privacy & Security category, choose Cookies.

3. Click the radio button next to "Enable all cookies".

4. If you want to be notified when a web site tries to set a cookie, select "Warn me before storing a cookie."

I also think its related to your own computer.. possibly something to do with cookie settings or something.. wait for a techie though, you will know when one arrives by the Anorak lol.

Haha.. Em took her Anorak off then sneaked in infront of me ;)

Edited by cfc1
I found Em's Anorak outside.

Yeah, my cookies are enabled. It's really wierd. It's the same as vmail's problem. All other forums I use remember me, it's just TOC that seems to forget me. :-(

And unfortunately as infinitely powerful as we are, we don't have the power to do that....

But thanks for thinking we're that awesome!

I turn my computer off every night and it happens to me every time, I have tried Em's suggestions but to no avail.

So if I had the buttons to fix this I would ;)

AFAIK,

it could be to do with what IP/ISP the logon logs with ur user a/c it used to happen to me a lot on different networks but i've sorted it now,

all the cookie blah blah blah settings means nothing, i do believe it is purely down to IP addresses..don't ask me how i know that IP/ISP is linked to ur account i just know/beleive it is!! not the best way of filtering users but if it works for the admin/owners then hey ho.

However a good walk through emski hun but...not sure it's cookie related.

HTH,

Mo

A quick google reveals the site admin should turn off Stronghold cookies.....

http://forums.invisionpower.com/lofiversio...hp/t230704.html

If you have Stronghold cookies on, anytime a member's IP address changes, then he has to log in again. So if you don't have a static IP, you're going to be logging all the time.

I used to be logged in all the time at my old house but since I have moved I have to log in.

I am not at all technically inclined, so this may be irrelevant (what's new  )

I have 4 e-mail addresses. All 4 are instructed to remember me on this computer. 1, Hotmail, doesn't & won't. I could safely say that all my "Fun" sites, eg, e-bay Townsend Records etc are remembered automatically. Obviously, financial sites do not.

For me , TOC is an automatic "click" , up comes user name + password & I'm in

That's what the "problem" is- if I log in from work, it remembers me until I log in from home, whereupon it remembers me until I log in from a wireless hotspot etc etc. It actually remembers your IP address, so if that changes, it forgets it's you

I got the same thing with Google Groups - in Firefox. With cookies turned on too. In the end, I had to locate the Google cookies in the cookie manager and delete them... then it worked.

I hate cookieeees.
