50 Over 55 Tyres - Better Handling?

I've got a few thousand left on the current tyres, but am thinking about going for the lower aspect ratio for the next set. Has anyone put 50 aspect ratio tyres on a Verso instead of the standard 55s?

Similar vein, has anyone swapped the standard diameter alloys for larger ones and gone for a lower aspect ratio?

If either case, do you think handling has improved and has it affected tyre life?
