Some Technical Difficulties.

Alright, So I've noticed something amiss with my T-Pot lately.

Especially when it's cold. I'll be driving along and if I'm not accelerating hard enough the car will stutter, sometimes just cut out (Not a jerky style stall, just flat dead..). It seems to idle quite low too, drops to about 500 now and again.

Originally I figured it to be the clucth, but if I completely take my foot away from the cluth it still does it. If I'm driving at 50+ it also seems fine.

Any ideas? Will it be something daft like my injectors need a good ol' cleaning? It is due a service.. maybe that's got something to do with it?

Dunno! Any help appreciated!

Are you saying the engine is cutting out and need a restart?

Does it feel like a miss on a cylinder or like a lack of throttle response when she's cold? How is it when if fully warmed up?

would check the air filter first. might seem obvious but mine did that until i got a new one.

To be honest it COULD be the air filter.

I have a K&N Installed and as many of them have done, it snapped off the bracket and there's a whopping hole just behind the filter. I did cover it up for a while but it's starting to come through again.

Maybe the air is leaking out / coming in that hole and making it jerky?

Hogie - It still does it when warm but worse when cold.

I'm off to Motorowlrd to buy some Injector cleaner anyway, it's only a couple of quid, I'll also try and weld that hole later on.

Alright - So I did go to Motorworld and I did buy some Fuel Injector Cleaner for £6... and! Now I cant afford the £60 to fill my tank to add it in to!

Once I got home though I took the K&N off and did another botch job on the hole where the possible problem was.

Washed the car, smartened up the wheels (maybe it was in a temper 'cos it was dirty?!?) and come to my mums to remove a Virus from her computer.

Now... Car seems to be far smoother. I'm hoping it is just the obvious Air Filter problem. I'll throw the cleaner in when I next fill up anyway.

is the hole after the MAF -

this would cause a discrepacy (typo) between the MAF value and the lambda reading and cause rough runing - same really as a vacc. leak

also means your car is running lean and this is really bad :)

maybe a more long term fix is needed

Nah, The hole is before the MAF. It it was behind it I'd have sorted it straight away.

I'llalso double check all my Hoses later to make sure there's not a leak somewhere there. Again, with the K&N Typhoon added the hoses have been changed / moved.

Although the K&N has been on for near a year now and the problem has only just started.

If the car is running lean or rich the ECU will spot it straight away and turn on the mil with the fault code, i had this problem with an dodgy air flow meter. Running to rich

Id say it the hole to be honest.

I put some redex in the last tank, hasnt done it any harm. If it doesnt do anything sure try cleaning the throttle body and idle control valve with some carb cleaner. Mite improve it. Look for an air leak first thou
