Gas Gage Problem

Hi to all. I am new here. I just purchased an 09 Toyota corolla, I have three thousand miles on it. so far so good it gets thirty six in town. I went to fill it up tonight and the gas was on empty and the light was on. I filled it up and when I looked down the gage went to 1/4, I shut it off and on a couple times and then drove home. On the way the gage went very slowly up to half then three quarters then full, when I got home I shut if off and on and it zipped up to full. Has any one had this problem? If so what is it.

I took the car into the dealer, they did a check and found nothing. They did a search of related problems and received an answer from toyota, that it is a normal function of this car model to be slow at times with the gas gauge going up to full from empty. So if anyone else has a problem you will know.
