Rust On Wheel Hubs

Hello

Just after some advice really, i've got a Toyota Corolla 04 plate, the problem is the unsightly rust that appears behind the alloy wheel, the wheel hub.

This is not my actual car but shows you the area i'm talking about!

I've also noticed this unsightly problem heading to the brake caliper.

What i'd like to do is take the wheel off and either 'clean' the rust or most probably paint it. Because i'm a pauper this will be a DIY job

Anybody got any advice? has anyone done this? what products do i need to acquire? your help will be much appreciated.

Thanking you in advance.

A wire brush to clean off the worst of the old rust and some hammerite paint usually does the job. It does get hot in that region under heavy breaking so you may wish to consider some caliper paint, just for the calipers, hammerite should be fine for the hub

Kingo

Hi I used to work at Lexus and the techs painted hubs with Zinc oxide primer (light grey in colour) after a quick clean up with a wire brush

you can get the primer from most accessory shops for less than £4 and this will do all 4 hubs don't spray the face that the wheel sits against

though (no point) and try to cover the braking surface of the disc, I did mine last year and they still look o.k. :( :D
