Only 4 days after I get my new Aygo I notice 10mph road chipping signs go up along a long section of the A444 before and after if crosses the M42. So seeing as neither myself or the girl I car share with fancy getting our new cars chipped up (she's just got a Fiat 500) we plan a different route to miss out the chipping section. That worked until today when they started chipping the alternative route we've been using with no advanced warning and to make it even worse the section they've had the signs out on for days they've still not started on :censor:

Fortunately I've got one route left to use without needing to go too far out of my way but really they should be forced to put signs up several days in advance of road dressing to notify people. The poor old Aygo is already looking quite dirty from the chipping dust (they were laying them as we passed) and the wet weather it's had to put with since I got it, I've only done 80 miles so far.

I hear you !

this sends me crazy too - on the 2nd day with our new Aygo a large stone jumped up and hit us somewhere on the right side,

couldn't wait to pull up and inspect it. fortunately there was no damage so I assume that it hit the wheels.

a place we regularly visit has a very long loose gravel driveway, we drive about 2mph on that to be on the safe side, and are

always amazed to see other drivers just whizzing on it seemingly oblivious to the damage these stones/gravel can do to your

paintwork.

They chipped my street not so long ago, hard to avoid unless I moved house, it ruined my mats at the tar on my shoes (and ruined my shoes) got on them, plus some really dense neighbours driving sheds thought it was fun to drive like a ****** down the street so I have plenty of stone chips :ffs:

Thank goodness I am moving to a house with a driveway soon :yahoo:

As an aside to this, and nothing to do with my Aygo. A few years back the council dressed our residential street which in itself was not a real problem. Not many cars using it at any speed, so no risk of chipping paint. I had a G reg Astra Diesel for working at the time, and used the road obviously every day. I didn't think anything of it at the time, but what I didn't realise was that a chipping had got in behind the timing belt cover, and embedded itself in the cam belt idler wheel. A couple of days later, 75mph along the A27 Emsworth bypass and a big bang!! Opened the bonnet and the cam belt had shredded. (Only found out about the chipping in the idler once they had stripped it down).

So caution is definately the order of the day when they are putting that stuff down. :)
