Tick Over On Rav 4

Can anyone help with my 2001 Rav4? When the engine has warmed up following a good run and I come to a stop (eg traffic lights) the tick over is eratic and often cuts out - I need to keep the throttle depressed to keep revs stable at 1000+.

Check there are no disconnected or damaged vacuum pipes anywhere connected to the intake manifold. A squirt around with WD40 will cause the engine to race if it is drawn in by a poor or leaking pipe. Clean the area around the throttle flap in the intake as it can clog up with debris from the PCV valve. You may need to replace the idle control valve if your model is fitted with one.

I had a similiar problem two weeks ago, local Toyota specilist found no problem lights on dash, took to Toyota main dealer, did a live hookup and idtentifed a sticking idle control valve. My specialist cleaned it but still had the odd problem sticking idle so had it replaced last week.

Total cost was £220 + vat + fitting £354.00 :(

Works great now - touch wood!! :)
