hey all, i currently drive a corolla t sport compressor but the look of the SR180 is really growing on me, an with the ever cost of fuel an road tax rising i'm gettin tempted to go back to diesel but i still want power as well tho.

i know the SR180 can't compare 0-60 compared to the compressor, but i'd just like to get an idea of wot it's like performance wise and that, if any one could give bit of info would be grateful

thanks

mike

I havent driven a compressor but i know someone that had one. Your right when you say that it wont compare 0-60 however in my friends opinion the SR/T180 is FASTER in gear than the compressor. I love my T180, it is total effortless to drive, the power is there in any gear as long as you have a minimum of 2k on the rev counter.

It's great on fuel, great to drive and you wont be disappointed if you go for one in my opinion

i know the SR180 can't compare 0-60 compared to the compressor,
That is because 2nd gear will only take you upto 30-40mph while a petrol will take you t0 70mph in third. Basically it is is very very very quick on a rolling start from 30 to 80. I have test driven the VW Golf GT Sport with 170bhp D engine and the T180 has even more more torque.

i've had both

t180 is just a different car. Compressor is very quick off the line, t180 isn't that quick as other people have mentioned. However when do you ever do that. The amount of stress on parts due to torque in first and second gear isn't worth burning it off.

Anyway as said, 30 to 70 is very quick. I know owning one between 30 and 70 a stock type-r can't gain and infact i pulled away a bit, exactly the story with a copper s and some twerp a shiny look at me i'm powerful chrysler 300cc v6 couldn't gain on me.

Its quick, it isn't sporty. Compressor is hard, loud, pretty thrilling and sporty. T180/SR180 is quick, effortless, handles well and is pretty good on fuel.

Put it this way, in the real world (v the compressor) the t180 is just as quick for what you need, overtaking etc. It does max 500 miles to a tank the CTSC does about 320 for the same amount of money on fillup (vpower v diesel extra). Costs A LOT less to insure and tax, servicing is not much more than the standard auris, if any and its the same toyota reliability. Its more comfortable and you get more kit. Also a toyota mechanic also told me to be careful about running the CTSC car over 80k miles because of the forced induction, supercharger, pulley etc. So overall you'll loose the hard hardcore sportyness but you gain a whole lot more but the gains are personal taste. However if i wanted a hot hatch again i would get an old shapre type-r.

I'm running an SR180 every day and also using it to compete in the Toyota Sprint Series. The times this car produces on tight, twisty circuits easily puts it in contention with Celica GT-4s. That is seriously impressive for a front-wheel drive diesel against a turbocharged four-wheel drive rally car. If that's not an endorsement of how good the Auris is, I don't know what is...

Also read that the t180 was lapping as quick as the auris (blade) v6 when on test in japan - the reviewer claiming that once he started to use the torque and gearing correctly it was up with the blade's v6 times.

Quite impressive really, the car rides quite high, a bit top heavy with its higher profile, the springs aren't really that stiff and the engine could be chipped which would make it a very quick car and even better handling car.

So is it better to get the Auris SR180 instead as it runs on TMS lowering springs so will handle better?

Toyota dont make the T180 anymore, the SR180 replaced it.

The SR180 has the lowering springs and privacy glass aswell as a diffuser 'decal' on the rear bumper. However they have removed keyless entry and smartstart system and the sunroof which came as standard on the T180.

In my opinion the T180 is a little bit more refined as it has a sunroof and is keyless. But obvioulsy the SR180 looks slightly better than the standard T180 due to its cosmetic changes.

yes i think people have reported that the sr180 doesn't have quite as much body roll at higher cornering speeds.

sr180 still isn't setup for ultimate handling or track days like some other cars are. Some have really hard rides and would be great on the track but everyday where (for me) 100% of my driving is done the t180 or slightly better sr180 setup is ideal.

As OldSko01 said, the SR180 definately has a more controlled ride than the T180, and it's certainly noticable when you go round corners.

The other side of the coin is a firmer ride around town, where the T180 absorbs bumps, the SR180 feeds them back, but not in such as way as to be considered harsh.

On the Motorway, the SR180 is more stable when encountering sidewinds, and other buffeting, but the ride quality is very similar for both variants. At 70MPH I don't think I could tell the difference between my T180 and SR180.

What is the 30-70 time?

The only one I've seen for it was 9.2s or something, which seems far tooooo slooooooooow.

I managed 320 on a tank from birmingham to london and back. Steady speed, the T-Sport would make it home, the compressor i had to fill up just before the end. Tantalisingly close to home too.
