Tte Springs Vs Coilovers

Alright folks! :D

Just as the above says really, I'm a bit undecided of which to go for; TTE springs, or the whole hog with coilovers and would appreciate some advice! :)

I like the idea of the springs for maintaining a degree of comfort whilst reducing body roll, but is this a very minor improvement or are they worthwhile? I don't really mind about the ride height drop as I have a face-lift, so it's all about the roll reduction really.

I've gotten a bonus at work (:yahoo:) so was thinking about coilovers, but don't know whether they are too aggressive with the car; ie, do they damage it in any way, or are they just too harsh on our roads? I was thinking about the Tein basics, something midway in terms of price, and I've good stuff about them.

I'm just split as I bought my old MR2 GTS with TRD coilovers already fitted which were set so hard (I never had the key to adjust them), and regretted every minute - they were far too hard and ultimately the back two burst forcing me to replace all four with standard. Somewhere in the middle would be great!

As I've said, any thoughts/ suggestions would be great!

Cheers!!!

Scoob :D

hm if it were me id gho TTE springs,

also, if you check nengum or whatever the website is, they have front and back chasis braces, and c one strut braces, maybe these would help in conjunction with the springs without compromising on ride quality like u could do with coils...

alternatively, if u do go coils, look into some pillow mounts if available for corollas. they may take some stiffness out of the deal.

TTE springs are Eibach pro kit springs so see if you can find these cheaper ,

i have the Eibach shock and spring combo on my compressor and its great , not to bangy and rattly like coilovers but still firm and sure footed , surely a compromise

Thanks for that mate!

I had the feeling that the coils might be just too harsh so thought I'd see everyones opinion. I really fancy a rear strut brace, but cutting into my baby would break my heart! :crybaby:

yea , myself and linty got two TRD ones off fensport , fitting instructions are a mare and the installs a bit involved , but makes a great difference and if your accurate the trim can be sliced nice and neatly

I recently got a price from Revolution Motorsport in Gateshead for Eibach Springs. It was roughly £250 fully fitted. Give them a ring and see what they can do.

Ah cool, a local!! All be it a mag! ;)

Was actually going to give them a try with regards to fitting, so thats not a bad price all in! thanks for that mate! :D

I wish I was good enough to do that stoneyfordni, but sadly I'm pretty rubbish! :( I'm sure it makes a real difference though and would love to do it - if only I could do it neat. You say you have a compressor though mate, are the standard setups not a firmer ride as it is??

Cheers fellas!

Actually I support the red and white and moved across the river when I got married. Let me know how you get on with the fittings if you go ahead with Revolution. I haven't gone for lowering springs but might consider it in the near future! I'm in Sunderland regularly as my folks live there still so hopefully see you around!

SCOOB, rather than getting a rear strut brace and having to get busy butchering the trim in the boot, consider anti roll bars that fit to the unserside of the chassis, they are then totally invisible and do a great job at preventing body roll too.

Coilovers will help you get the perfect drop but if it is not neccesary dont bother just get a new set of shockers or just simply the tte springs !

I got the Eibach springs from Fensport for £150 inlcuding VAT & Next day delivery.

Then paid a friend of mine £80 to use his garage and help me fit them. So £230 all in. Not bad! Took us 3 hours.

Go Coilovers im running tein coilovers on my GT4 i had them fully set up and the difference over the springs is unbelivable.

when you have them setup they ask you a few questions and set it to your needs fast road, Track, long Distance etc

your previous bad experience was unfortunate but if you have the rebound and dampers setup with slight height left you will have comfort as well as supreme handleing!!!!!

Doubtfull.

I checked over 7 places all quoting over £130+.

Quite rare you'll find a palce that'll even touch them.

Thanks for all the help fellas, it’s much appreciated!! :D

I think I’ll just go with the springs as the costs to fully and properly set up Coilovers would be quite a lot for the odd ‘spirited’ drive. I must be getting old!! I think I’ll look into the anti roll bars with those stiffening the ride up, thanks for that minimarc!

Good to see you’re one of the lads Ed!! It means I’ll have a fellow member as peeved as me when we get tonked off most teams this coming season! You’ll probably never spot me in a silver facelift around the town, but I’ll keep the old eyes peeled for a green CTS – there can’t be many of those!

Oh, and sorry for not replying, I’ve been away with work. :(

Fensport site says 35mm drop but I think on Facelift they're still just 15/20mm drop. I think the 35mm drop is for the Pre-facelift?

Can't say I've used them myself but surely they can't be that shabby if they're from Fensport? We'll never know until someone trys anyhoot! :P

I was looking at the ones from Fensport when i was looking into mine, went for TTE in the end as noone could give me any feedback on the fensport ones.

If anyone goes for these tell me they are rubbish (even if the are not) it will make me feel better ;)
