have an avensis d4d it seems to take a long time for the tempt gauge to reach half way compared to all my other cars is there a problem or are they all like this.

Hi Japnut

Mine takes about 6 miles to reach the halfway mark, and in 6 years it has never gone higher (even on hot motorway days). I understand that because the engine is so efficent, most of the energy from the diesel is converted in to forward motion, with little left over as waste (i.e. heat).

The only snag is that the engine parts do not work at their best until fully warm (i.e. expanded to correct tolereances), so fuel efficency is impaired until fully warm
