To Extend Or Not To Extend?

The RAV is coming up to 3 years old and I have to decide whether to extend the warranty or not. As I do under 10000 miles a year, the cost would be £655 for two years. That includes membership of Club Toyota that I would take out so the net cost is about £550 , just over a fiver a week. Now I know that this is highsight question in that if nothing goes wrong you wonder why you bothered but if you don't take it out and two months later you have a bill for £700, you wonder why you didn't. The usual suspects are naturally excluded -exhaust, brake pads, discs, clutch wear, Battery, tyres etc. I know that anything can happen but what are the likeliest items to go wrong that would be covered? What is your vote , take out or not?

Thanks

Well, I took out the extra two years when I bought my RAV4 (at 1 year old) as a peace-of-mind purchase (this kicked in This May)

My thinking was that if I wanted to guarantee no big bills, I could either sell the RAV4 at 3 years and buy another nearly-new car or keep for at least two years more but get the warranty - and that way would be a lot, lot cheaper :)

It is quite likely I will renew again at 5 years old for another 2 years for exactly the same reason.

I am sure many people could say "put the money aside and it is there IF you need it" but it is like any insurance policy - if you don't need it, it is a waste of money, but if you do, you are happy you spent it.

I think the Toyota Extended Warranty is remarkably comprehensive,. I bought a Celica GT4 at 4 years old and had a one year warranty with it - when the exhaust blew about 8 months in, they replaced it FOC! Didn't expect that, I have to say. I have also had the Brake Pads replaced and Discs skimmed on my RAV4 under warranty which I was surprised - but happy - about.

DMF issues aside, I don't recall any posts that have complained or discussed how the Toyota Warranty has let them down.

IMO if Toyota are confident enough to give us a 3yr 60000 warranty, then they know nothing is likely to go wrong in that period, and i think hyundai+kia, both give 5yrs if not 7yrs..now assuming your car has only done 30000, and been serviced properly it is really only 18mths old mechanically and i may be wrong but apart from teething problems i can't recall any serious problems on here, and lets face it we would know, I have heard of some manufactures, who allow you to take out an extended warranty and then if you don't use it you get a refund, which seems a good deal to me, if you were a 20000 a year driver then maybe it would be worthwhile, but as your not, i cant see you needing £550 of repares in the next 2yrs, or 20000mls, but what do i know..
