I suppose the guy who sold it to you never bothered to tell you that this is by far the most common failure on these cars. I am sorry to tell you that it is NOT the gasket but rather the actual head that has cracked and you will be looking at between £1200 - £1500 to have it repaired. If it went so soon after you bought it I personally would find it VERY hard to believe that the previous owner did not know it was on its way out. A lot of guys suffer this, find out how much it is to fix and then go down to their local auto factors and buy a bottle of K-Seal. This blocks up the cracks long enough to sell the car and pass the problem onto the next guy.

The reason mechanics don't want to touch them is because

1. They are a pain in the a**e to work on

2. If you don't use genuine Toyoa Head and Head Gasket it will reoccur within a few months

3. They can't be bothered with the hassle as they can make twice as much turning out twice as many cars for the same amount of time with less stress.

On this forum is a guy called Bob Murphy, the same guy who stars in scrap yard challenge on TV. He specialises in fixing these cars and charges the amounts I have quoted above. There is at least one other well known guy the name of which I can't remember but you can find out by joining

and asking on there.
